Also the water between the islands are chasms that function as highways. If someone falls in the chasm, they will end up in space.

The city's islands became a swamp after the native tribe settled in billions of years before the Big Bang.

The swamp was created when the area received frequent flooding, which broke up all the islands into tiny pieces. The flooding was caused by the Big Bang. The islands that would be modernized were merged together to support the city's construction.

The district with the brown roads was built (the roads and buildings, not the islands) by the natives, who did not know about the chasms' use as a road.
