Type | Main storyline |
To unlock | Complete the mission The Illapa Project. |
Starting location | In the mountains at Tierra del Qhapaq. |
Reward | Thunderbarge: Obtaining The Ion Coil is unlocked if you've also done Meteolab Grab. Old Friends and New Enemies is also unlocked, but story-wise it makes no sense to do that mission until later Operation Illapa. |
Agency Distress Beacon is a mission in Just Cause 4.
Introduction[]
Quote from the map marker: "An Agency distress signal has pinged the grappling hook ever since the catastrophe at Illapa. That can't be a coincidence. Investigate the source of the beacon."
It is advised to use an aircraft, unless you like off-roading challenges.
This mission is just a cut-scene, so there is no need to bring anything special.
Walkthrough[]
Rico finds a crashed helicopter. Upon looking closer, he meets Tom Sheldon. Rico grabs a Cazador 18 Shotgun conveniently lying on a crate and aims at Tom right after Tom introduces himself. Rico recognizes Tom and attempts to emphasize his distrust on the latter.
Tom explains that when Rico "went dark after Medici", he looked at some of Rico's old files. He noticed that Rico's father had been working for the Black Hand. He then assumed that Rico would go looking for his father. He continues to explain that he was put on "administrative leave" (this is similar to being fired, but temporary) when he was looking into more files about Project Illapa. According to him, the Agency higher ups are aware of the weather manipulation technology and the potential of "strategic atmospherics". Tom is concerned about this technology possibly becoming available for "just anybody".
Then Mira suddenly walks over to them and asks if Tom is a friend. Rico says that he has known Tom for "over 20 years" and that "he can not be trusted", referring to how Tom was merely helping The Agency several times in Just Cause 3 against his agenda.
Rico is about to walk away, but Mira convinces him to stay and hear Tom out, because "[Tom] has a plan and [they] do not".
Tom then explains that he already knows a little about Zona Dos and has a plan to approach it safely. The plan is the "same principle" as the Stingray base at Medici. This means that the base is built on the banks of a river and they need to construct a lightning-proof boat so they can get close without being electrocuted.
They agree on where to acquire the lightning redirection technology (Meteolab) and where to modify the boat (Prospero Astillero). This agreement sets up a small series of missions to set up a raid on Zona Dos.
Trivia[]
- Annabelle (Tom's helicopter) has a unique paint combination.
- Tom presumably brought the Cazador 18 Shotgun to defend himself at Solís. Where he obtained it from however, remains unknown.
- If it is day time when this mission is started, the game sets the time to night time.
- After completing this mission, Altoyaku can be secured from the Wachikuni region even though it wasn't possible before.
