The Brawler Mech is a DLC vehicle in Just Cause 4.
Description[]
It's a mech, the likes of which were first introduced with the Mech Land Assault expansion for Just Cause 3.
While very similar in overall design and function, the Brawler Mech differs from its original JC3 counterparts by having new types of weapons. The JC3 mechs can also lift things off the ground and throw them by manipulating gravity. This is a technology that was originally developed by the eDEN Corporation. It was explained in the JC3 expansions that the Black Hand was stealing eDEN technology to reverse-engineer it. In universe this mech must be the result. The HUD reveals that the weapons are indeed artificial gravity.
The mech is only available in Black Hand faction colors and symbols.
It has 4 hydraulically controlled legs with mecanum wheels that allow it to drive in any direction. The leg hydraulics keep the vehicle upright on any uneven ground.
The top half of the vehicle has an operator cabin, engine and two hydraulically controlled arms. The arms have identical weapon hands.
The HUD is unique and even displays the vehicle health, making it very convenient for combat. The vehicle parts are at first displayed in white. These turn to yellow, then orange and then red with flashing yellow areas.
Performance[]
Driving[]
The vehicle stays upright on ALL terrain and it's programmed to absolutely never flip over, even when going over a cliff.
There is a speedometer on the right side of the HUD, but it just nearly instantly jumps to "150" when the vehicle quickly reaches its top speed. The actual top speed is about 70 to 80 km/h.
There are special options to jump and to "dash".
- The jump goes high enough to easily clear an EM-979 Airliner.
- The "dash" fires 2 rocket engines at the back. Firing these while driving causes a small, but sudden forward acceleration for about 10 to 20 meters and momentarily distorts the screen due to "motion blur". Dashing while airborne during a jump causes the same forward acceleration, allowing the player to jump over wider gaps. If locked on to a target it will "punch" it (see Combat section), or at least try to. While the speedometer does not register it, the fastest part of the dash is enough to complete any speed stunt, so it’s at least 300 km/h.
Combat[]
The arms have energy-weapons that blow things up, but there's also a way to use them to punch targets.
Any objects that can be lifted will become highlighted on screen. This highlighting works with in about 10 meter range. Very large vehicles, like the EM-979 Airliner do not become highlighted and can not be lifted. It can still be blown up.
The weapon/arm use options are:
- "Left punch". This fires a small energy blast that launches highlighted objects backwards and usually, make them blow up upon impact with the ground. Very large objects will not take any damage.
- "Right punch". It does the same thing as the left punch. If you want to spam punches, you'll have a much higher "fire rate" if you use both "fists".
- "Gravity gun". This grabs a highlighted item and instantly brings it close to the mech. Letting go of the button throws the item away. Once again, the object will usually blow up when it smashes back into the ground. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to gently put something down.
- "Dash". If locked on to a target, the mech slams its "fist" into the target and deals damage. Otherwise, it just boosts forwards (see Driving section). If the target locked is too far away, the mech will propel itself about 50 meters towards the target before giving up.
The mech has no energy shield (something that some JC3 mechs had), but it's very durable. Possibly even more so than tanks. Since the HUD displays damage level, it's easy to predict when there's going to be trouble.
8 bit sounds[]
Main article: Easter Eggs in Just Cause 4.
At the same time the Mech DLC became available, some arcade machines were added to the game. It has a green sign on top that says "Mecanico". Shooting at the machine will destroy it and reset the Mech to have 8 bit sounds for all its weapon noises. Besides this, the mech becomes much more powerful. The Punches and Dash will launch objects backwards many times farther than they do without the 8 bit mode.
These can be found at:
- Joya Del Sol pier, next to the clown easter egg. It is the building to the right of the sailing ship ride.
- Cuchillos, near the junk yard in the center of the town.
Feel free to add, if you know of more locations.
Locations[]
This is a Downloadable content for Just Cause 4. It's a separate DLC item, as in comes alone in its own DLC. Also, this is one of those DLC vehicle packs that is associated with the Black Market (JC4).
Once the DLC is purchased and downloaded, it becomes available at the supply drop.
Trivia[]
- On PC the DLC is 38.9 MB.
- Mechs of this kind do not exist and are entirely fictional due to a number of reasons.
- The machine (with the exception of the cabin) would be entirely full of machinery and thick frame components, meaning that it would be as heavy as if it were made of solid metal. This immense mass would cause various problems.
- The main problem with mechs of this kind are the small wheels that would immediately sink at least several inches into asphalt under the immense mass, and they can only slowly walk (5 km/h).
- The small wheel axles would not be strong enough to work at that kind of speeds with out immediately overheating and wearing out with in an hour or less.
- The legs and arms would each function about as well as excavator digging arms. That means that while they would potentially be very powerful, they would be slow.
- Armor would actually not be necessary over the arms and legs, since they would have to be as thick as excavator digging arms. This means that they would certainly be bullet proof. Only a few hydraulics components would need a little protection.
- No power source is powerful enough to fit into this machine. If it has an internal combustion engine, it would need a fuel tank the size of the cabin. If it has electric engines, it would need a similarly big battery. Conveniently, the Just Cause Universe is known to have Bavarium technology, but Bavarium is never featured outside of JC3.
- As opposed to the likes of El Tanquecito and Prospero Shade, the Brawler Mech is not used by the Black Hand under any circumstances regardless of DLC ownership or not.
