The CommLink is Just Cause 3's version of the PDA.
Description
The CommLink is a multi-function electronic device integrated into Rico's grappler. It has a small, curved (touch?)screen and the map can be seen when it is not in use.
When used by the player, it's the name of a menu for in-game things: The CommLink has five features: Map, Rebel Drop, Gear Mods, Leaderboards and Progress.
In the mission Friends Like These..., it is said that The Agency has given CommLinks to all the rebels in exchange for unknown favors in the future. It is unknown how their's work, or what they look like (rebels are never seen wearing them, in-game or in cutscenes), but theirs are definitely not part of grapplers.
Uses
- It can open the Map of Medici, which marks:
- All settlements in Medici, and all chaos objects required for liberation that are located in the settlement.
- Missions (as long as there are any).
- Challenges.
- Collectable Items in Medici.
- Fast Travel Flares and Rebel Drop beacons.
- Rebel Drop.
- Gear Mods.
- Game progress, including:
- Percentage of overall game progress.
- Percentages of settlements liberated.
- Collectibles.
- Unlocked vehicles.
- Statistics.
- Di Ravello tapes.
- DLC Progress.
- Pick up General's News Network and other radio transmissions.
Trivia
- In previous games in the Just Cause game series this is called the PDA.
- The CommLink cannot be used on Boom Island.
- In some of the DLC missions, the CommLink seems to have a “FaceTime”-like app.
- It is strange that The Agency can afford so many of these likely considerably expensive devices, and even stranger that they are willing to give every rebel one.
