The Dionysus PLDS-H is a weapon in Just Cause 3.
Description[]
Dionysus PLDS-H is a laser designator that resembles a large and elongated handheld radar speed gun. It has the markings "FOW" on its sides.
The in-game description reads: "Sometimes you just need to call in an Airstrike. Aim this FOW at a target, hold down the trigger, and watch as a friendly jet swoops in with a payload."
Performance[]
The weapon projects a red laser when the fire button is used. To mark a target for an airstrike, it must be held for some time, and once successful, ammo is expended while the weapon reloads instantly. A rebel CS7 Thunderhawk spawns and then performs an airstrike that consists of ~14 bombs near the laser's target. There is no cooldown time in between airstrikes.
Due to its long range, it is an excellent choice for destroying Chaos Objects and other static targets without having to get too close, but the delay and the delivery method means it doesn't work when used underground or against mobile threats.
Another application of this weapon is to identify hostile SAMs in the area in order to facilitate the use of air vehicles by hacking or destroying them in advance. The SAMs will attempt to target CS7 Thunderhawk if it flies close enough and give off their distinctive red glow.
Locations[]
- Unlocked for Rebel drop after completing Missile Cowboy.
Trivia[]
- Strangely, the "2x special ammo" Gear Mod does not apply to this weapon.
- Dionysus is the Greek god of wine.
- The air strike actually consists of several bombs dropped independently onto the area in a similar fashion to the U-7 Dravec ground attack aircraft, as CS7 Thunderhawk only has missiles which are fired forwards rather than falling from the aircraft.
- With the Reel-In Boost mod, the CS7 Thunderhawk spawned by this weapon can be hijacked.
- In function, it replicates the airstrike FOW that protects the main tower of Cima Leon: Centcom regional central command base.
- In addition to protecting Cima Leon: Centcom, Porto Tridente employs a similar strategy by calling in airstrikes, which consists of U-7 Dravecs and CS7 Thunderhawks engaging any attackers.
- PLDS most likely stands for Portable Laser Designation System. It is unknown what the "H" stands for, though possibly "Handheld", given it is a sophisticated but man-portable weapon.
Glitches[]
- If you do the remove weapons glitch and do it correctly by throwing the grenade and the grenade needs to explode while Rico switches weapons from gun rack, the gun will be on the ground if you shoot at the same direction the gun is pointing. Through this, this weapon will have infinite ammo.
