As seen in a pre-release gameplay video. Note the tornado in the distance. This is the rainforest region, so tornadoes do not spawn here in the released version of the game. Hence, this is cut game content from Just Cause 4. | |

El Abismo is a bridge and settlement in Just Cause 4.
Description[]
The map description states: "The village below a bridge was slowly built up by rebels and the poor. Now you’ll find a soulful, familial community beneath the oblivious traffic."
El Abismo is likely the most iconic village in Just Cause 4. It's an (in-game) indestructible road bridge between two mountains. Unusually, there's a small settlement built into the bridge support structure. In the bridge, there are added platforms that support houses for the inhabitants. The houses are really just cargo containers and other similar objects made into makeshift, improvised homes. This indicates how poor they are. However, there are also some normal houses near one end of the bridge.
There are numerous objects on the bridge, such as several shipping containers, some red barrels, a small crane, a windmill (or wind generator), vehicle wrecks and more.
The settlement is said to have "taken inspiration from shanty towns or slums in South America in real life".
The Operation Whiteout mission ends here. In this mission it is revealed that Mira and Luis live here. Gabriela also raids this place during that mission and mentions that she's aware of this place being a safehouse for outlaws. She allowed this to help in keeping Solís a safer place.
The last mission Operation Illapa also ends here, and the main characters have a party where they discuss their future plans.
Afterwards, this becomes one of the default places where the player can spawn. For some strange reason, the game decides to occasionally spawn Black Hand in small numbers (a helicopter and a few soldiers) here although the territory has been liberated, so it's not known how they even got here in the first place. Unless Rico gets heat (whereupon armies of Black Hand will spawn in liberated territory, which makes no sense), constantly respawning Army of Chaos will soon defeat the small number of Black Hand with dual AA guns and miniguns on either side of the bridge.
Location[]
This place is located in the middle of the rainforest biome, specifically between two mountains, and this settlement also crosses a river. There's a waterfall a short distance upriver from here. On the map, the settlement is about in the center of the Hanasacha region, and is the only marked location in it.
Vehicles[]
- 2 - 3 Cadadía 83' Hatchbacks - At various parts of the bridge.
- 2 Warrior Offroaders - At the ends of the bridge, in Army of Chaos Faction colors and symbols.
- Armadillo Forklift - Near the end of the bridge.
- Banda Conveyor - Near the middle of the bridge.
- Pugilista SUV - Sometimes spawns parked at the end of the bridge.
- Traffic along the road.
- Several vehicle wrecks.
Completion[]
- Car Stunt - Pass through the ring in a Cadadía 83' Hatchback. This one might be slightly tricky, as it involves maneuvering it to fall down through the ring.
- Wingsuit Stunt - Wingsuit through all rings in less than 12 seconds.
Trivia[]
- This place is the earliest known settlement from pre-release promotional materials and the earliest known settlement by name.
- Its name translates to "The Abyss" in Spanish.
- This settlement adds a whole new meaning to "living under a bridge."
- On the lower levels of the bridge a small black dog can be found. This dog is one of the Easter Eggs in Just Cause 4. It is a returning easter egg from Just Cause 3. It is a real dog that belongs to one of the game developers and it is said to have visited Avalanche Studios many times.
- Once all regions are liberated, Rico will almost always spawn here when you start the game up, regardless of the climate zone he was last in.
- He also frequently spawns near the top of Illapa.
