This is the Just Cause Wiki site maintenance log.

Purpose

The purpose is to list all important updates in a single place, so we wouldn't have to list them on each-others user talk pages and such. Site glitches can also be mentioned here, but the correct place to report them is here, or here.

Plese note that this is not a forum. All discussions about possible site updates an improvements should remain on talk pages. All entries here should be dated in UTC time (GMT 0:00).

List of users with special rights

There's also multiple other automated "bots" and many "wiki staff", but there's no point in listing them here.

The log

All log entries must be signed.

We have a policy to archive long articles, but so far this article is an exception to this.

2012.05.22

I created a new template today. Template:Infobox Character.

GMRE

2012.05.23

There was an odd glitch earier today, about 6 hours ago, which prevented the wiki from being edited with an Internet Explorer 8. I sent an error message to the right place and the wiki seems to be fine again.

Before yesterday I also noticed that the autocomplete function, when typing links in the "source" mode, did not work. That seems to be working now.

GMRE 18:38, May 23, 2012 (UTC)

2012.05.24

  • There were still a few glitches regarding Internet Explorer 8 earlier today, but again they seem to be fixed now.
  • This log was created after Lucan07 agreed to the idea. The first log entries were copied from User blog:GMRE/Captain's log.

GMRE 13:50, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

2012.05.24

Norrlanning96 added "Missions that take place here" to the settlement infobox. Now location pages nolonger need a "Missions" section, unless there's something special and notable about how the mission changes the settlement.

GMRE 21:02, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

2012.06.01

Mission categories

Right now the Just Cause 2 storyline missions are listed in the article "List of Agency missions" and in the category called "Agency Missions". The Just Cause (1) storyline missions are all listed in the article "Types of missions in Just Cause" and in the category "Just Cause Missions". The disambiguation "Storyline mission", the disambiguation "Missions" and the "Main navigation board" on the main page should minimize confusion, but I don't think that's enough when Just Cause 3 comes out. The current situation is pretty confusing as it is.

I'll create new categories for the storyline missions.

  • The Just Cause (1) missions will remain in the same "Just Cause Missions" main category, because Just Cause (1) doesn't have any mission sub-categories.
  • The Just Cause 2 category "Agency Missions" will be replaced by the category "Just Cause 2 Agency missions".
  • When Just Cause 3 comes out then either I, or someone else, will make a main category "Just Cause 3 Missions" and a sub-category "Just Cause 3 Agency missions".

All pages that are left over will be redirected into the disambiguation "Missions".

GMRE 16:36, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

Tables (This section is out of date. See below.)

The wiki has changed its default tables.

The old (good) table in code:

{| border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="width: 650px"
|'''Example 1.'''
|Example 2.
|-
|Example 3.
|
|}

That code as a table:

Example 1. Example 2.
Example 3.

Example 1 of the new table code:

{| border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" class="article-table" style="width: 650px"
|'''Example 1.'''
|Example 2.
|-
|Example 3.
|
|}

That code as a table:

Example 1. Example 2.
Example 3.

Example 2 of the newer table code:

{| border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" class="article-table" style="width: 650px"
! scope="col"|'''Example 1.'''
! scope="col"|Example 2.
|-
|Example 3.
|
|}

That code as a table:

Example 1. Example 2.
Example 3.

Only the older and better ones are in use in this wiki. The new ones are bad because they leave large amounts of empty space between each row of text.

Basically, to get the good tables, we have to:

  1. In "Table properties" - Set the "Border size" as "1".
  2. In "Source" mode - Delete the class="article-table" part of the table code.

I know there's a way to make the back-ground of the old table white (non-transparent), but I'm not sure how. I'll update this article once I'll find it.

GMRE 18:03, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

2012.06.11

There's a very large amount of info about the Sabotage Destructible Objects in the giant user blog User:Enodoc/Intel on Chaos. It should eventually be sorted into the articles. Unfortunately there's a glitch, which can sometimes make that page difficult to read. GMRE 10:17, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

Much of it is merged into the articles now. (Norrlanning96 (talk) 23:29, July 31, 2012 (UTC))

2012.06.16

Created a table for the Just Cause 2 territory templates. The advantage is that previously all locations were in a single long list, but now they're sorted by type. GMRE 13:36, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

2012.07.06 (newer tables here, outdated)

The wiki owners are changing the site programming, so we're going to have to change the coding for ALL tables on the site.

This is an example of an exsting table, as it appears in source mode:

{| border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="width: 650px"
|'''Example 1.'''
|Example 2.
|-
|Example 3.
|
|}

And this is what it will have to be changed to:

{| border="1" style="float:left; width:650px"
|'''Example 1.'''
|Example 2.
|-
|Example 3.
|
|}
<br clear=all/>

If the existing table does not specify the width, then that part should be skipped. Also, note the "clear=all" part at the end.

GMRE (talk) 22:57, July 6, 2012 (UTC)

2012.07.13

I've updated the portal pages, adding the main page banner to both and some newly photoshopped logos.

BureaucratKronos 02:09, July 13, 2012 (UTC)

2012.08.02

A new infobox was created yesterday. It's named Infobox Vehicle and is supposed to be used on all vehicle pages. (Norrlanning96 (talk) 13:16, August 2, 2012 (UTC))

2012.08.18

Added new section in Template:Infobox Region. See the template page for more info. (OrdermanSaddex 23:57, August 17, 2012 (UTC))

2012.10.04

Added some images and titles for the achievements and plan to finish it up some time soon. Anyone with admin level rights can add titles to the achievements so feel free to give them names as any is better than "test." BureaucratKronos 00:52, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

2012.10.26

Just created the Template:Infobox User. It's now in its beta stage. GMRE (talk) 19:09, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

2013.02.28

Recently I've been renaming a lot of pictures. Most pictres seem to have totally useless names that are made up of random symbols. The pictures should be searchable. Every picture of a location/vehicle/mission/object should have the correct full name of the item in its name. If there's going to be (or is) multiple pictures of the same thing, then the name should specify the details in brackets at the end of the name, or something like that. But of cource, the name should be as short as possble.

I don't need help with this, I'm just pointing out the problem in a public place. GMRE (talk) 16:37, February 28, 2013 (UTC)

Wait is the picture name the same as the picture file name? If so then I better start giving pictures proper file names. Speeddaemon (talk) 01:40, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
Yes. That's exactly what this is about. How do you even know what you're uploading, if the file name is like that? GMRE (talk) 16:29, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
I know what I'm uploading because I would have saved the picture recently. So the file name is the picture name right? Speeddaemon (talk) 04:38, March 2, 2013 (UTC)
Yes. GMRE (talk) 12:08, March 2, 2013 (UTC)

2013.03.10

An new infobox is now planned. It will be used for Sabotage Destructible Objects and should be created by GMRE next week. (AdminSaddex 23:17, March 10, 2013 (UTC))

Done. Go see Template:Infobox SabotageObject. GMRE (talk) 19:39, March 11, 2013 (UTC)

2013.03.20

We should remove the weapons part from the performance tables on all Just Cause 2 vehicles. That info is in the infobox. That performance table is copied from the official guide (an inferior competitor to this site), so ideally that table shouldn't contain any extra info. This isn't a high priority. Just something to do when editing a vehicle page. GMRE (talk) 18:25, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

It doesn't work to request one of the bots at this site, such as Gtabot to handle a such task, or is that a too "advanched" task for a bot to do automatically? (AdminSaddex Any questions? 18:40, March 20, 2013 (UTC))
I've standardized the table code in most articles, but there's still some that have a different code. I guess a bot could do it, but I don't know. I've never contacted a bot owner about anything. GMRE (talk) 18:44, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

2013.03.27

The new achievements were finished and turned on this week. Also, a new category for sorting the settlements marked as villages was created yesterday. (AdminSaddex Any questions? 23:12, March 27, 2013 (UTC))

2013.04.26

There was an odd glitch yesterday. When trying to edit, all articles got stuck at "loading editor". It happend in both Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome. I contacted wiki support. When I tried again several hours later, it was all working again. GMRE (talk) 16:23, April 26, 2013 (UTC)

I also contacted them, and shortly after I contacted them, it worked as normal again :P. (AdminSaddex Any questions? 21:50, April 30, 2013 (UTC))

2013.04.30

A new navigation box has been created for the Category:Just Cause Weapons this week, Template:JC Weapons. It has now been added to all of the related pages. Furthermore, our first affiliation seems to be in our hands now. The Grand Theft Wiki's executive manager, owner, and former sysop/bureaucrat on this wiki, Gboyers has accepted a partnership. It's maybe a little controversial on their wiki though, as Gboyers agreement lets us bypass one of their affiliation rules. (AdminSaddex Any questions? 21:50, April 30, 2013 (UTC))

2013.05.11

As of 2013.04.30 we also have a new site maintenance page: Just Cause Wiki:Task list. That new page is a list of things that any new editor can do to help, where as this page is for pretty much admins only. GMRE (talk) 15:10, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

2013.06.01

Links to administrator usernames will now appear in color on talk pages (unles there's a custom signature) and on the recent history list. GMRE (talk) 11:35, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

2013.08.01

Two of our latest templates: Template:Locked and Template:Construction. GMRE (talk) 22:41, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

2013.09.04

Two more new templates: Template:JC1 Missions‎ and Template:JC2 Missions. GMRE (talk) 16:27, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

2013.09.23

The Just Cause Wiki:Article quality levels are now in effect. The templates still need better number icons, but those can be added later. GMRE (talk) 13:10, September 23, 2013 (UTC)

2013.11.09

The content pages are pretty much done, but the community pages (category help; help desk; community portal and any other such) are still the same as they were when the wiki was made. They're totally out of date and providing useless info. They'll be updated during the following weeks. GMRE (talk) 16:20, November 9, 2013 (UTC)

2013.11.16

The new forums have been enabled for about a week now and it seems to have been a good idea. They've noticeably increased activity. GMRE (talk) 13:01, November 16, 2013 (UTC)

2014.12.05

Bringing back the maintenance log after over a year! Added a template for easy featured articles. Also added forum activity to main page. Kronos Talk 22:28, December 5, 2014 (UTC)

2014.12.07

All embedded video players should be updated from "Video:" to "File:". Wikia has updated its coding, resulting in the ones marked as "Video:" becoming broken red links once the page is edited. At least 90% of the videos should be fixed by now, but keep an eye out for the last few. GMRE (talk) 11:56, December 7, 2014 (UTC)

2014.12.15

  • I just created a new template: Template:This-section-needs-work.
  • I've also started the complete rewriting of Just Cause Wiki:Templates. That article seems to be a completely pointless default article that probably comes with every new wiki once its founded. It refers to a lot of templates that don't exist on this wiki and lacks nearly all templates that we do have. I've cleaned out some of it before, but it needs a complete rewrite to be useful. GMRE (talk) 20:53, December 15, 2014 (UTC)

2015.01.14

  • Added infoboxes and information to several DLC weapons.
  • Replaced remaining weapon pictures with the black market ones ripped from the game.
  • Replaced copyrighted pictures in the 'trucks' category. Kronos Talk 06:12, January 14, 2015 (UTC)

2015.01.18

  • Replaced copyrighted pictures in the 'motorcycles' category.
  • Updated poll.
  • Changed featured articles on portal pages. Kronos Talk 05:01, January 19, 2015 (UTC)

2015.01.27

  • Replaced Chevalier 'car' pictures.
  • Created a template to use for vehicle stats, needs some tweaking still. Kronos Talk 11:14, January 27, 2015 (UTC)

2015.01.29

Thanks to Kronos, the JC2 vehicle statistic tables can now be incorporated into the vehicle infobox. Also, he reported having replaced all JC2 vehicle pictures that had copyright issues. GMRE (talk) 17:42, January 29, 2015 (UTC)

I am almost done replacing the copyrighted images. There are about 10 left.

  • Added Template:Documentation to standardize and move the documentation of templates to a /doc subpage. Very simple to use.
  • Going to add the remaining strategy guide stats, soon. Kronos Talk 03:59, January 30, 2015 (UTC)

2015.01.31

And it's fuckin' done. All images have been replaced. If anyone finds any more, let me know. Kronos Talk 15:29, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

2015.02.01

  • Organized Main/Portal pages.
  • Added all strategy guide stats. Kronos Talk 17:43, February 1, 2015 (UTC)

2015.02.12

I moved the background up precisely 8 pixels today. I dunno why it needed to be moved by that number precisely but it did. Weird update. On another note, I should add that there is a portal page for Just Cause 3 now. But that was made quite a while ago now. Kronos Talk 01:05, February 13, 2015 (UTC)

2015.03.28

I have rewritten the generic and not very useful wiki Portal:Community to something that's at least a little useful now, but it's still going to need some work. It still looks like an article page. GMRE (talk) 10:56, March 29, 2015 (UTC)

2015.03.30

I've disabled blogs and removed their widgets on the main page/portal pages, also updated the community portal to show the change. Kronos Talk 23:21, March 30, 2015 (UTC)

2015.04.01 (top navigation)

Using this page to edit the "top navigation" allows us to add one more * to the beginning of each line, which allows there to be a fourth thing in the top line. I used it to add the "community" after JC3. GMRE (talk) 15:17, April 1, 2015 (UTC)

2015.04.22

We've had custom edit summaries in a drop-down list for a few weeks now. The place to edit those is Template:Stdsummaries. GMRE (talk) 16:58, April 22, 2015 (UTC)

2015.05.04

I made and implemented a new infobox: Template:Infobox Nation. GMRE (talk) 19:56, May 4, 2015 (UTC)

2015.05.15 (latest standard tables here)

As of a couple days ago, I've started to implement a new form of table, mainly to match up with the infoboxes and keep consistent looking tables across the site. The new tables are a bit heavily padded so I plan to lower that shortly. The differences are as follows.

Original:

{| style="float:left" border="1"
|'''Column name 1'''
|'''Column name 2'''
|'''Column name 3'''
|-

Replacement:

{| class="jctable" style="margin-bottom: 0.5em;"
!Column name 1
!Column name 2
!Column name 3
|-

Anything after this point on any table is the same so tables are very easy to change over. Kronos Talk 04:06, May 16, 2015 (UTC)

2015.05.28

Apparently there was need for an Illustrated guide to editing, so I made one. GMRE (talk) 18:28, May 28, 2015 (UTC)

2015.07.14

Made a template for article and file name change requests: Template:Namechange. More info at Just Cause Wiki:Templates. GMRE (talk) 22:05, July 13, 2015 (UTC)

2015.07.15

The background has been resized to 1080x1920 which is wikia's standard size. Being that it is a larger image than before, the lowest two images have been removed to make up for the file size. I plan to re-add them at a later date. As for now, 1080x1920 should work for any user; mobile, desktop, desktop XL, or otherwise. Kronos Talk 23:04, July 17, 2015 (UTC)

2015.08.26

The higher ups at Wikia are forcing all wikias to have identical (inferior and ugly) infoboxes, because according to them, non"standard" infoboxes don't display correctly in "mobile devices". This wiki is one of many where all infoboxes do display correctly, but they're still forcing everyone to replace all infoboxes. This means all infoboxes will have to be completely remade and (probably) manually replaced, unless we can get some bot to do it.

Also, thanks to vacations, we're down to 1 active admin. Not a major problem at this time, but we may need more staff by the time Just Cause 3 comes out (96 days from now). GMRE (talk) 15:55, August 26, 2015 (UTC)

2015.09.03

About infoboxes: Looking into this more, I haven't seen a direct order to do it now and they seem to still be developing additional codes for it. Time will tell what will happen. GMRE (talk) 21:19, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

2015.10.13

Recently we agreed to change the mainpage as a part of a "Fan Studio Opportunity" deal which should result in this site getting some exclusive Just Cause 3 info closer to its release (december 1) and this wiki might even become officially recommended (or something like that) by Square Enix. The main page redesign negotiations can be read at User talk:GMRE/Archive 10#Fan Studio Opportunity. Time will tell what this will lead to. GMRE (talk) 15:28, October 13, 2015 (UTC)

This later lead to a JC3 giveaway event at the wiki. All pages have a template-like advertisement on the top that leads to User_blog:Matt_Hadick/Just_Cause_3_Giveaway. The event lasts about 2 weeks. GMRE (talk) 16:09, December 9, 2015 (UTC)
The game give-away is getting lots of attention. At this time it's listed as having had 393 unique editors during the last 3 days. GMRE (talk) 18:59, December 15, 2015 (UTC)

2015.11.01 (infobox settlement (JC3 and JC4)

The Template:Infobox Settlement that's currently used on all JC1 and JC2 articles has become overly complicated, so I've just made a separate identical infobox for JC3 settlements: Template:Infobox Settlement (JC3). GMRE (talk) 20:15, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

So far this infobox works just as well for JC4 and there doesn't seem to be any need for a separate JC4 version. GMRE (talk) 20:47, March 31, 2019 (UTC)

2015.12.08

Created categories for factions, split for each game. This allows the main page to have separate links to each group of factions on a per game basis and keeps the wiki more organized. If more categories are found like this, similar separation will occur. Also to be noted is that I plan on implementing navbox style sections to the portal pages, to make them more useful and in-depth.

EDIT: I accidentally lost this paragraph before I posted it, so if some similar typing shows up on a different page, that is why. Long day... Kronos Talk 23:39, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

2016.03.22

By now there's plenty of Just Cause 3 content. The total number of articles is 1509. Read Thread:24362 to see details of how this wiki has effected game content.

An example of a notable new article is Timeline of the Just Cause universe.

For some reason the top navigation is broken (changed to some vastly inferior version with like 80% less links.

I'll post the code for the previous top navigation here, until it gets fixed, if it's possible to fix.

User:Anonymous230385 (an admin) reported today that he'll be away for an unknown and possibly indefinite amount of time. GMRE (talk) 20:42, December 9, 2016 (UTC)

This matter is resolved. GMRE (talk) 11:45, January 15, 2017 (UTC)

2017.01.15 (JCFF)

There's two announcements:

  • As discussed at this forum thread, we will no longer have to restrict the increasing massive amount of Just Cause fan fiction to forum threads at this wiki. All Just Cause Fan Fiction just got its own separate wiki: http://just-cause-fan-fiction.wikia.com/
  • Today, this wiki got its 1600th page.

2017.07.21 (about inactive admins)

The nitpick: I've always wondered what we should do about the inactive Bureaucrats. I feel like they pose a slight risk if they login and decide they hate us, with the amount of power they have. Call me crazy, but I'm posting this here to keep it off of GMRE's talk page because of that. After having looked around, there are ways to contact Fandom about getting them removed, with community approval of course. I know this isn't a talk page but I am making an exception for one thing. I mean, there's one that doesn't even have a userpage. I'm just think that prevention is better than repairing after the fact.

Let me know what you think and take a look at the stats. Kronos Talk 06:02, July 22, 2017 (UTC)

BureauLastLogin

The same statistics are in the table at the top of this page. I happen to have noticed that the GTA wiki has actually gotten a number of admins demoted for "inactivity". I don't know if it's possible to demote a founder tho. I guess we should get those demoted who have not been active since 2011.
It obviously wouldn't be right to do this if someone just needs to take a 6 month vacation due to reasons. GMRE (talk) 08:46, July 22, 2017 (UTC)
I imagine we should make a post about this on the forum, as we need the community's support for Wikia staff to accept this. Founders can be removed but I highly doubt they would do that. Having only one inactive user with top rights, particularly a founder, would be alot better than the 5+ we have now. Kronos Talk 06:35, July 26, 2017 (UTC)
First off, should I reply on this? (I don't know, I'm an admin but have never replied until now)
Second, I have seen the same thing on the PvZ wiki (I joined not too long ago) and there admins are not only demoted for inactivity, but also bad behavior (which apparently is rampant there)
Kronos, what do you mean by "5+"? We have at least 5 active admins right now?
Seems more like four to me Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 14:25, July 26, 2017 (UTC)
*3 active, 2 on "vacation" and a bunch more who should be demoted. As you can see at the table near the top of this page. GMRE (talk) 14:54, July 26, 2017 (UTC)
Oh I see
...
I don't know what to do (I've either never seen them or barely seen them) Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 16:39, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Well there's not much to do.

  • Lucan hasn't been completely active since about maybe a year after I showed up. Very rarely he edits some page a little and (checking his contributions) You know what? He hasn't been here since 2015.
  • Saddex was very active until at one point the mileage counter in his mind crossed from 999999 to 000000. He then announced his long term vacation and disappeared about a year before JC3 came out. In fact that's why I had to promote you, because Kronos was also not exactly active. He's been back a few times, but nothing that could be seen as "active". You should remember him. You were both very active back then.
  • I think I can remember Shadowalkers, but he disappeared a long time ago.
  • Kronos also likes to have long periods of inactivity.

Really the only ones who should be demoted are specifically "Whitehwk", "Frozenjakalope", "Chief frank 001", "C-d-rom" and "Shadowalkers".

@Kronos I guess I'll make a thread for it then. GMRE (talk) 18:02, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Lucan07 as I recall was semi-active around when I joined in 2014 (but yeah I haven't seen him in recent years)
I remember Saddex enough that his old username Norlanning96 (or something like that) was still in use back then (but now I haven't seen him in like forever)
I've never heard of Shadowalkers
Kronos is... Kronos. Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 18:14, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Okay Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 18:32, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Some of this has been cleaned up now. GMRE (talk) 13:17, August 5, 2017 (UTC)

2018.02.13

Wikia has updated its coding a little with 2 notable minor changes.

  • Some of our infoboxes, like the article quality levels are now automatically adding an empty row above them. This can be manually removed, but it requires every editor to remove them in source mode during each and every page edit. Well probably have to update our template code for this somehow, if we can figure out how to.
    • It is likely that they purposely did this to force everyone to replace all custom infoboxes with their lame generic ones.
  • The normal big red "edit" button now uses the "classic editor" by default and the "visual editor" is in the drop-down list where the classic used to be.

GMRE (talk) 23:33, February 12, 2018 (UTC)

This update was actually pretty recent because I noticed it probably the day it was implemented (message on GMRE's talk page)
At first I thought it was some coding glitch but then when it started happening to all pages --> led to this Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 01:16, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
It seems that the empty rows problem really was a glitch, because it lasted for about 3 days and is gone now. The articles are still edited in the classic editor by default, but that's no problem. In fact that's good, because I only edit in "source mode" from the "classic editor". GMRE (talk) 19:46, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
Yup definitely a glitch
I just edited three pages as a test and the spaces never appeared

2018.07

Work is underway with all the JC4 intel from the several promotional developer videos and a few pre-launch gameplay videos.

Meanwhile User:Anonymous230385 had a random disagreement about matters unrelated to the wiki and seems to have left again. He has disappeared and come back more times than I've bothered to mention in this log. Usually he leaves a mention of it on my user talk page. Anyway, time will tell when/if he'll be back. GMRE (talk) 21:20, July 19, 2018 (UTC)

But also 1,214 days of torment is also not something easily recovered from I'm back but will probably rarely be on (given I'm heading back to college in 3 weeks or so)

I (User:Anonymous230385) reported to GMRE a few days ago that I would be returning to college and in that time will be very busy up until somewhere like December with some exceptions in between

Until then, GMRE is pretty much the only admin on the wiki Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 14:09, August 21, 2018 (UTC)

2019.01.22

Wikia/FANDOM decided in an act of complete bull**** to rename all its "wiki" pages to "fandom" now.

There isn't any real change, but those who can notice subtle changes can see that instead of "justcause.wikia.com" it now reads "justcause.fandom.com", with the former becoming a redirect link now.

This has been planned by the higher ups at Community Central for some time and SHOULD not have any significant changes in terms of activity and traffic Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 02:35, January 23, 2019 (UTC)

I've been struggling with PTSD heavily lately and today my sanity hit a critical breaking point

That is why I am announcing an indefinite leave of absence until I can... recover, whatever that may mean

2019.05.22

Three things to note on this day:

  • Yesterday was the day when the Los Demonios DLC was announced for Just Cause 4.
  • User:Anonymous230385 mentioned (by off-site means) that he believes himself to be in a better condition by now and might be returning in the near future. We'll see how that goes this time.
  • And we were contacted on 2 administrator user talk pages that Fandom have started some new program of assigning each wiki an "official manager" to oversee everything. So... I guess we now have a new boss looking closely over our shoulders here. He's User:Shrev64.

2020.04.10

Due to SpartanEditor777's ludicrous claim of an abuse of power by me not including other nonexistent rule violations, I am hereby forced to take an indefinite leave of absence due to such an apparent hostile environment.

It may come down to a point where I might have to be removed as an administrator.

-A230385

That disagreement was something that took place at User:Anonymous230385es privately run Discord server and therefore isn't really relevant to the wiki and definitely isn't something that could reasonably be used to call his performance as a wiki administrator into question. GMRE (talk) 21:01, April 10, 2020 (UTC)
I have returned... sort of. Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 19:22, May 8, 2020 (UTC)

2020.06.14

Most, if not all the vehicles in Just Cause 4 now have an article on this wiki as of today.

While it can probably be explained by normal human behavior and people being busy or what not, it's been roughly a year and a half since Just Cause 4 came out, and yet most of the vehicles in Just Cause 3 took between one to two years for their vehicle articles to be created.

While this probably doesn't deserve a post like this, I had to make a note of this somewhere.

On an unrelated note, there has been an ongoing issue over the page length of DA 9.3 Lightning Gun, which has resulted in multiple editing disputes and page locks. It seems unprecedented in the history of this wiki. Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 22:15, June 14, 2020 (UTC)

2020.08.11

We got a notification that Fandom will move this wiki over to a differently programmed version over the next few weeks. This will also involve eliminating "forums" by converting them to "discussions".

More about the details here. GMRE (talk) 20:05, August 11, 2020 (UTC)

2020.09.04

The forums were all merged into "discussions" today. All forum links in the wiki still work by redirecting to the discussion where it was moved to. GMRE (talk) 22:59, September 4, 2020 (UTC)

Also, the "discussions" have been massively overhauled with additional features, so it should be OK. GMRE (talk) 19:23, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

2020.09.30

Just got a notification that this wiki will be moved over to the next kind of wiki coding some time over the next few weeks. Time will tell what this means. Normally there are some page-layout and editor changes when they've changed site coding. Hopefully the infoboxes will still look normal. GMRE (talk) 19:23, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

2020.10.11

While nothing new, there's been a major increase in vandalism lately for no apparent reason.

It's not known if this is related to it or not, but two FANDOM "higher ups" came by today and reverted the vandalism.

According to GMRE some months ago, vandalism is an indication of increased traffic on this wiki, which is apparently a good thing. Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 22:56, October 11, 2020 (UTC)

2020.10.19 (big wiki coding update)

The wiki was updated to new coding and we have a few minor issues:

And as an added major annoyance, all links have to now be typed out manually. I'll go complain at the community central about this last thing. GMRE (talk) 15:48, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Reportedly, the last thing I complained about is called "link suggest" and they are already working on it. GMRE (talk) 20:44, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

2020.10.22

I cannot in good conscience serve as administrator for a brief while due to an apparent hostile environment on this wiki and in real life.

I will return eventually. Whether that will be by 2021 or in a few years will remain to be seen.

Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 02:40, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Found a new feature. If gallery images don't have captions (or if only 1/3 of them do in a 3 picture gallery) then the pictures will be centered and automatically cropped to squares and random pictures will be bigger/smaller. Giving them each a caption forces the older view, except that there are 5 pictures in a row, as opposed to the 3 we had before the coding update. GMRE (talk) 22:58, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

This seems to have been fixed back to normal at some point. GMRE (talk) 20:25, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

2021.01.21

As mentioned above at the 2020.09.04 entry, the "forums" have been merged into "discussions". The wiki still has a lot of links to forum threads "Thread:[number]". The problem is that none of these lead anywhere anymore. Special:Search does have a way to search for discussion threads by title, but the search cuts off all those threads that were created before some I don't know what point in time. It does not depend on when they were last posted in. I was just updating the links at Myths and I had to manually scroll down to 2016 to find some of them. The bugs and glitches articles and actually a number of others too still have a bunch of links to forum threads. It will take a lot of work to find them and update the links. GMRE (talk) 20:25, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

2021.02.22 (latest "wiki manager")

User:MarkusRost has been replaced by ReverieCode as our "wiki manager". GMRE (talk) 16:14, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

2021.03.24

Fandom has demanded (link 1 and link 2) that all wikis made some kind of a system of local rules that fit in (don't contradict) the site "terms of use" and which would be used as the basis for any and all blocking (banning) of malicious editors.

So, I'll try to write something like that when I'll have some time and when I've had time to think of some.

Normally when blocking someone, we have a drop-down list of default reasons. These reasons are "Other", "Inserting false information", "Removing content from pages", "Spamming links to external sites", "Inserting nonsense/gibberish into pages", "Intimidating behavior/harassment", "Abusing multiple accounts" and "Unaccepatable username".

For convenience, the rules page will include these default reasons and (if needed) include some explanations for each. GMRE (talk) 16:28, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Oh and naturally, the other Administrators will have some say in this, so the first rules page will likely only be a draft, until the others agree to them. GMRE (talk) 16:32, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Finished the rules. See: Just Cause Wiki:Rules. GMRE (talk) 16:57, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

2021.03.24-25

For a couple of days there was a big troll attack. Someone kept removing content from pages and adding gibberish. They kept coming back with new IPs, but it was obviously the same person. Conveniently, it's easy to undo edits (even several edits at a time) and to block any number of IPs. GMRE (talk) 16:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

2021.05.19

I'm not certain if it affects other users or not, but it should be noted that on this day, apparently attempting to log in through an incognito window is now impossible. This wasn't an issue in the past.

Elsewhere in the discussions, there is apparently much talk about a possible Just Cause 5 in the future, even when Just Cause: Mobile is coming soon later this year. Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 19:01, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Someone with a similar name to me apparently filed a formal complaint on FANDOM accusing me of "abuse of administrative power."

2021.08.16

The wiki has again been updated to a pretty different look. Article headings look different, there are less links at the top of the page. A big Fandom bar that used to be at the top is now vertically on the left and there's possibly more changes. GMRE (talk) 17:02, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

The File:Wiki-background, which for some reason doesn't have a ".png" at the end (anymore, or was it always that way?), is nolonger the file that defines the wiki background. See the file link for a full history of our past backgrounds. GMRE (talk) 17:07, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

We also used to have a big bar of our own at the top that we could set to any color and which even had a small picture, in addition to the site logo, but that's gone now. Only a some of the links remain there now. The bar area is sort of transparent now. A similar bar that spans the whole page has now appeared at the top edge. This new bar only appears when scrolling down, or while editing.

And for some reason the full list of categories at the bottom of an article is now hidden by default. GMRE (talk) 17:22, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

For some reason, source mode now adds numbers to the side revealing how many lines have been added from the top of the article.

For example, this is line 924 (unless an upper line gets removed, which is highly unlikely). To anyone viewing this, this would look like a weird statement, but in source mode, this would be correct.

It is not known why FANDOM implemented such an update. This might have something to do with the upcoming MediaWiki update, but this is uncertain.

Numbers on the side is very reminiscent of that of code (of which, this technically would be a form of coding, but not a very... conventional form.) Anonymous230385 Any questions? Wanna talk? 16:38, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

2022.10.08

Kronos recently discovered why the video players don't seem to work anymore. Clicking on the player makes the embedded player instantly disappear. It turns out that this is a glitch with Fandom and that Fandom staff already know about it.

The glitch only occurs to those videos that are aligned left. At this time, by policy, nearly all embedded video players are aligned left. It would be terribly tedious to have to find them all and manually realign them to center. Hopefully, the left alignment gets fixed soon, or we'll have to systematically do something about it. GMRE (talk) 12:55, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
