Land mines are weapons in Just Cause 4.

Description[]

They are hexagonal, flat bombs about 70 cm across and 20 cm thick. They are painted in a combination of blue and black.

They are meant to blow up anyone who tries to attack the area that they are protecting, by being accidentally triggered.

In the Dare Devils of Destruction DLC, the ones on Isla Santuario look almost identical, the only changes being that the middle area is raised and they emit orange sparks when the player is close to make them more visible. The game has also put orange square HUD indicators around them all.

Performance[]

They are touch-sensitive and will explode if Rico (or anyone else) touches them. The explosion is powerful enough to take away over 90% of Rico's heath, almost killing him. This also critically damages most vehicles, though some more heavily armored ones can survive.

A good way to disable them is to grapple them from a distance. Being grappled moves them, causing a detonation. Alternatively, shooting them with most projectiles will trigger them.

Some of the ones at Isla Santuario are different in that they jump about two meters up before detonating in mid-air. Despite seeming somewhat silly, this is an actual type of mine, though they are usually meant for anti-personnel purposes and not anti-vehicle (how they are used in-game).

Locations[]

  • During regular gameplay, they have only been seen around Prospero Tanques, where they are scattered randomly around the edges of roads and the desert around the base/factory. They are easy to spot thanks to their dark colors that easily stand out from the light desert soil. A few of them actually spawn about 50 cm above ground. If grappled, they first fall to the ground and then detonate.
  • They can be found in the mission Training: Top Brass on a part of the road. They are very close together causing them to all detonate if one is touched. This can kill Rico instantly.
  • The Dare Devils of Destruction DLC has several minefields on some of the roads at Isla Santuario.

Trivia[]

  • See also: Naval mines.
  • About real land mines:
    • Land mine at wikipedia and anti-tank mine at wikipedia.
    • Anti-tank mines are a type of land mine that normally do not detonate if a person steps on them, for they are meant to disable vehicles. Real anti-personnel mines are much more sensitive (and smaller) than anti-tank mines.
    • Real landmines are normally well camouflaged, but there have been a few battles where they have been left visible on the ground due to lack of time. One such notable instance is the Russian defenses in the Battle of Kursk.
    • Real land mines have been made in various sizes ranging from small soda can-sized anti-personnel mines to large anti-tank mines, bigger than the ones in the game. Though most anti-tank mines are only about 30-40 cm across and under 10 cm thick. They are only meant to disable a tank by breaking a track.
    • Land mines are very common in reality with billions having been made.
