León Espinosa is a character in Just Cause 4.
Personal info[]
He was a member of the Espinosa Dynasty. He was a descendant of Diego Espinosa and the father of Oscar Espinosa.
It's mentioned on the radio that he died 20 years ago in a plane crash that was caused by a tornado. More specifically the storm had apparently cut his spleen. According to the loading screen, his plane was taken down by a lightning storm that appeared over the plane and took it down at the Kunka region. The text specifically reads "Oscar Espinosa's father, the popular León Espinosa, perished when a sudden lightning storm destroyed his plane over Kunka."
Career[]
He was in charge of all the major companies in Solís until he died. He was probably the former ruler of Solís.
As explained in the mission Meeting Lanza Morales, it was León who started Project Illapa, to prevent extreme weather. Oscar believed this to be a waste of money and had the project weaponized after León's death.
Legacy[]
Oscar Espinosa titled his autobiography "I am the son of my father" and explains in it that it was his father's death that motivated him to start Project Illapa with the intention of controlling weather to eliminate storms.
This is however contradicted in the mission Operation Thunderbarge where it's revealed that the Agency had been monitoring the project for at least 30 years. The contradiction is further explained in the mission Meeting Lanza Morales, where it's revealed that León started the project a number of years before his death.
