The Longbow Cannon Truck is a vehicle in Just Cause 4.

Appearance[]

It's a large 6x6 military truck with an automated cannon turret on the back. The cannon is thick enough (something like 300-400mm) to resemble a battleship gun, but is shorter than the truck.

Strangely, the gun has a thicker section in the middle. This is something that only armored vehicles with a closed crew compartment can benefit from. See the trivia section below for more details. Also strangely, there's a small square shield around the barrel, near the breech. These things indicate that in-universe the gun was likely originally designed for a closed turret.

The bottom reveals that it has drum brakes and (very unusually for a vehicle of this size) independent suspension with two coil springs for all wheels.

The cabin resembles the Oshkosh HEMTT.

It is very similar to the Próspero Hauler, but has 6 bigger wheels and is taller.

The truck and its gun also resemble some large 6x6 cranes.

The rear mud flaps and a backpack that hangs near the right rear corner sway in the wind when the vehicle moves. The Army of Chaos version has suitcases strapped to the fuel tanks.

Upon entering, Rico might either laugh or say that "This will be fun."

Performance[]

The vehicle is roughly similar to the Hauler, but is a bit less sluggish. It can drive in such deep water where only the roof of the cabin and the gun are above water. The massive wheels and high ground clearance make it good for off-road driving. It can drive up 80 degree cliffs, albeit slowly.

It comes with 300 shells for the large cannon. The large and powerful cannon makes the truck a self-propelled gun. The player can control the turret from the driver's seat.

While the large cannon is very powerful, the truck itself is very fragile, at times blowing up from only small arms fire. It appears to have no armor whatsoever. This, combined with its limited maneuverability, makes it inferior to tanks at close combat.

The Longbow would be very effective at long range due to the gun's very long range and high damage output. It takes only two hits to destroy a Warchief Assault Tank, though in real life it would probably only take one. More about armor vs. explosions at Armored vehicle and Largest explosions.

Versions and locations[]

Black Hand:

Los Demonios: These are actually captured Black Hand versions. They can not be hijacked and only act as stationary turrets. They are a relatively high-end threat, because they can hit Rico even when flying and they're hard to destroy, because of the way that they can dodge missiles.

  • At several "infested" locations.
  • In the mission Extermination they appear both as mission objectives that must be destroyed and later as infinitely respawning enemies.

Trivia[]

  • The vehicle is named after the longbow, a weapon that in its time was famous for its accuracy and long range.
  • The cannon comes with two vertical pistons. These are a part of the system that elevates the gun.
  • The design of the truck makes it a self propelled artillery, but the cannon behaves similarly to most tanks in the game. In fact in heat, if Rico hijacks a Black Hand version of this vehicle, the Black Hand yell over the intercom that the target (Rico) has a tank.
    • This is likely some kind of minor development oversight. Even though this vehicle has a cannon, this vehicle moves by wheels, whereas tanks move by treads.
  • This type of truck should have some kind of support legs on the sides and/or back, in order to use the gun without suffering the recoil effect produced by the main gun. Similarly to the Tuk-Tuk Boom Boom, the gun should send this vehicle flying, but the games don't have any recoil physics. Also, even when the recoil doesn't completely destabilize the vehicle, the recoil would pull the barrel out of alignment even before the projectile leaves the barrel, resulting in useless accuracy.
  • This is the only self-propelled artillery in the Just Cause game series.
  • On a tank, the thicker section of the barrel contains an additional empty space that allows air pressure and hot explosion gases to partly ventilate the barrel during the moment of firing. The main purpose is to create a draft inside the barrel that would ventilate the barrel of the poisonous explosion gases. These gases would otherwise end up inside the turret when the next shot is being loaded. These types of sections have been added to tanks as of the mid 1940s. By modern times all tanks have them. This device is called a bore evacuator.
  • Strangely, the Longbow Cannon Truck's gun is only a little more powerful than all other explosive weapons such as tank shells and helicopter rockets: powerful enough to destroy a tank in two hits compared to three for other explosions. In reality, an artillery gun that with such a massive caliber should be powerful enough to destroy a heavy (main battle) tank in just one hit.
    • This is thanks to Just Cause 4's "equalization" system that makes the damage output and HP of several things highly similar. Luckily for the Longbow, the cannon was not equalized as much as some other vehicles' armor, so it still has an edge over the other explosive weapons in the game in terms of damage output.
  • The cannon on the Tuk-Tuk Boom Boom is a smaller version of this vehicle's cannon.
  • The vehicle is probably inspired by the South African G6 Rhino, a similar 6-wheeled, turreted artillery truck. The Rhino's turret is enclosed, however, which is why it has a bore evacuator as described above.
