The M488 is a weapon in Just Cause 3.
Description[]
The M488 is a rocket launcher with a relatively simple body consisting of a rail for optics, two grips and a small iron sight. Caution markings are spotted on various sides of the body. The exhaust is much more elongated with a larger nozzle and three stabilizer fins arranged roughly in a trefoil formation. Ahead is its Bavarium-infused warhead that resembles a miniature nuclear bomb with tiny fins. Small portions of the weapon itself and the warhead contain spots and strips of red, white and yellow.
The Rebel drop description says "It's difficult to describe the might of the Bavarium-infused M488 FOW. Basically, fire it at something that you don't like and that thing will be gone forever."
Performance[]
This weapon fires a Bavarium-tipped projectile that arcs with gravity. On impact, it produces a massive explosion that deals extreme damage and deletes certain objects, followed by a moderately fast reload.
M488 is the most devastating portable weapon due to the sheer destructive power of each rocket at midrange. It sees its potential anywhere, and can level numerous Chaos Objects or other targets at once, being one of the only weapons that can destroy a SATCOM Dish in one hit. In the case of smaller outpost, one M488 is enough to raze it entirely.
The only weakness is that using it in close range can be lethal, requiring some distance between the target for the best results. Therefore, be sure to stand clear of the blast zone when firing this weapon.

Trivia[]
- This weapon is clearly based on the Davy Crockett weapon system, a tactical nuclear smoothbore recoilless weapon for firing the M388 nuclear projectile. This was the lowest-yield nuclear weapon ever made in the United States, with explosive power equivalent to just 10-20 tons of TNT.
- The real weapon was larger and, though portable, must be fired from a tripod.
- The projectile inside incorporates a launching spigot at its base, although unlike the Davy Crockett, this component does not detach as soon as it enters flight but instead stays with the projectile.
- In function, it replicates the Bavarium nuke launcher FOW protecting Falco Maxime: Centcom.
- M488 generates what might be the largest explosion from a handheld weapon in a Just Cause game.
- Hence, this is likely the most powerful - or one of the most powerful - handheld weapons in the entire Just Cause Game Series.
- The eDEN Spark can be considered a close second due to its massive damage output and infinite ammo, as it conjures lightning strikes.
- Hence, this is likely the most powerful - or one of the most powerful - handheld weapons in the entire Just Cause Game Series.
- Normal small military outposts, like Guardia Plagia II, can be destroyed in a single hit. However, reportedly communication outposts (like maybe Guardia Sirocco III) cannot be destroyed with a single hit.
- M488 explosion assets are identical to that of the Z80 bomb, featured on vehicles in various "crash bomb" challenges.
- This weapon shares the ability to delete objects with the eDEN Spark.
