The Medici Military is an armed force in Just Cause 3.

General info[]

Their uniforms are marked with the symbols of the Medici coat of arms.

The Medici Military (Medician language: "Fortias Armate Medicense" - "Medician Armed Forces") is the official military of Medici.

Their duties include national defense, protecting military bases, supporting the D.R.M., suppressing the Rebellion, and responding to Rico Rodriguez when heat is triggered.

They mainly wear beige uniforms, with a red beret, that has a golden eagle on it and red rank badges on their shoulders. Most soldiers have two white stripes on the chest of their uniforms, with "Classe Private", meaning Private, written on the left one, and "Fortias Armate Medicense" on the right one. All uniforms also come with the flag of Medici on the right sleeve.

Pilots flying army fighter jets have "Medici Fortias Aeree" written on their right stripe instead of "Fortias Armate Medicense". They also lack the "Classe Private" stripe, instead they wear a silver eagle on the left side. The pilots flight overall also has a badge on their left sleeve, depicting a red cirlce, with a golden eagle inside of it.

Their ground vehicles and boats are marked with 3 white stars.

Aircraft are marked with the flag of Medici (red, white, and green) and with 3 yellow stars on the white bar. They also come with two numbers next to MAF (possibly standing for 'Medician Air Force') including 07, 08, 12, 22, 26, 43, 57 and 83.

Bases and facilities[]

Main article: Military bases in Medici.

Like the San Esperito Military and Panau Military, they own a large number of bases all over the nation, but unlike the others, the Medici Military has built some bases underground into large caves while some bases are built on top of high concrete and steel columns. Many of their bases and towns are built on old forts, such as Corda Dracon: Centcom.

The military also participates in the Medici Space Program by conducting deep space research at Espia Bassa and Espia Alta.

Unit types[]

There are many varied types of soldiers in the Medici Military.

Medici Military regular soldier

Regular soldier. These are the most common type of soldiers in the Medici Military.

They are the most common type of the Medici Military soldiers. They wear a sand colored uniform and a red beret with the Medici Military insignia. While better trained than the D.R.M., they have the same aim and health as a normal militiamen. They sometimes use grenades. They also have a holster with a visible sidearm, but that is never seen in use.


Their standard issue weapon is the U-39 Plechovka assault rifle, though they can also uncommonly be seen wielding other weapons. One wields a CS Wraith 225R at Cima Leon: Centcom and on rare occasions, one can be seen with a Urga Vdova 89 and/or CS Predator at Vigilator Sud. Two wield U-55S Pozhars in Le Galera. They also wield the CS27 Misfortune, CS110 Archangel, and UPM61, but strangely they do not actually fire those weapons.

Medici Military Female Soldier

They are female soldiers in Just Cause 3. They tend to spawn frequently in military bases. They can be deadly in interior areas because of their high rate firing SMG. They can also be seen as drivers of military CS Powerrun 77 and other boats. They also spawn in military encampments that you cannot liberate (such as small runways and guard posts) and in certain missions like disabling a base's weapon.


Their standard issue weapon is the Prizrak U4 SMG, though they can also uncommonly be seen wielding other weapons. They can rarely be seen wielding the CS Wraith 225R at some military bases, and one wields a U-39 Plechovka at Vigilator Sud.

Medici Military biker soldier

They are soldiers who ride Pavouk U-15s to chase Rico. They are basically the same as regular soldiers, but they wear a helmet and goggles rather than a beret. They also wield the Prizrak U4 SMG as their standard weapon. These soldiers appear regularly from heat level 1-5.

Medici Military sniper

Sniper.

Soldiers that have a hood and wield the USV 45 Sokol sniper rifle as their standard weapon. When they aim at Rico, a red laser projects from their position to wherever they are aiming. They are almost always found in guard towers or on elevated platforms. At close range, they switch to a U-55S Pozhar for defense and try to back up. At some bases and outposts they fire from a CS Comet. Even when Rico is moving, it is possible that they can hit Rico which makes them dangerous. They drop their Sokol when killed, but you can never pick up their dropped Pozhar, even if they were wielding it before they were killed.


There is a glitch where if you hijack a CS Comet with snipers on they will continuously fire at the helicopter regardless of its health until it explodes or the snipers die through other means. Be sure to eliminate them before you fly off in it.

These soldiers are not common, but also not uncommon. They can appear in roadblocks between heat levels 3 - 5.

Helicopter Pilot (Medici Military)

They handle several types of military vehicles, but their appearance is different by each type of vehicle. Tank pilots have a helmet with goggles on top of the helmet. Helicopter pilots have a helmet with a visor. Jet pilots have a helmet with a visor and oxygen mask and wear a gray flight jacket different from the above two who wear regular sand color uniform. As seen in the gallery they have a U-55S Pozhar for self defense.


These soldiers can be commonly found piloting Urga Postolkas, CS Navajos, CS7 Thunderhawks, U-7 Dravecs, and less commonly the Urga Hrom D, Urga Racek, and even Urga Mstitels.

Their standard issue weapon is either the U-39 Plechovka or U-55S Pozhar, though they can also uncommonly be seen wielding other weapons. One can be seen wielding a CS Predator at Citate Di Ravello, and one apparently wields a UPM61 or Automat U12 at Puncta Sud.

Medici Military Commando

Commando or paratrooper.

They are basically regular male soldiers with a bullet proof vest. They can be sent to combat situations by airborne assault or land vehicles. They have much more health and a little better aim than the regular soldiers. These use grenades more often and also have a sidearm in their holster but that is never used. They are sometimes called "Paratroopers" because they can drop from the U41 Ptakojester as reinforcements for military bases and in certain missions. They appear commonly from heat level 3-5 in a Urga Szturm 63A and some even appear without heat. Dispatch refers them as a "response team."


Their standard issue weapon is the CS Predator assault rifle, though they can also uncommonly be seen wielding the U-39 Plechovka at Porto Darsena and in a random encounter.

Medici Military shotgun soldier

They are commandos with a helmet and wield the U-96 Kladivo shotgun as their standard weapon. These soldiers have much more health than privates and commandos as they have essential body armor: a bulletproof vest and a helmet. Their shotgun can stagger Rico if he is hit. Their tactic is to close the distance between them and you to achieve maximum damage. They will mainly appear in military encampments such as military bases, though they can sometimes rarely be seen in heat. They can easily set a vehicle on a fire, with even armored vehicles catching on fire within a few hits.


Sometimes shotgunners will shout "Eat buckshot!" and "Meet my boomstick!". Consider this a warning that a shotgunner has spotted you and you need to take them out fast. The "boomstick" is an easter egg/reference to... something.

These soldiers are not too common, but they tend to spawn in high numbers in military bases if they do spawn there. They can also spawn in heat level 3 - 5 in a Urga Szturm 63A, though this variant of Urga Szturm 63A is much more rarer than the regular ones containing 4 commandos.

Medici Military machinegun soldier

This type of soldier is similar to the commando type, but these come with a helmet. This type of soldier is arguably the toughest and hardest to defeat in the entirety of the Medici Military (excluding the Black Hand). Relative to the rest of the military's infantry, they have very high health and lots of heavy body armor. These soldiers can take many hits in the torso (as it is protected by the ballistic vest) and can take more than one typical SMG or even assault rifle hit in the head. They move slower than other enemies but deal high amounts of damage in a short time due to the high damage and pretty high fire rate of the Urga Vdova 89. Arguably, they are a little tougher than the standard Black Hand Aegis soldier as they have a little more health than them and a considerably more powerful weapon. These soldiers are commonly found in military bases near Core Electrical Units, and sometimes rarely seen in a Urga Szturm 63A in heat levels 4 and 5.


Their standard issue weapon is the Urga Vdova 89, though one can be found with a U-39 Plechovka at Citate Di Ravello.

Medici Military RPG

An RPG soldier.

They wield the UVK-13 RPG and they aim at Rico with a green laser sight, similar to the sniper. Like the sniper, they can be found on guard towers or elevated platforms, but are much rarer. When Rico is close to them, they switch their weapon to the U-55S Pozhar pistol. Like snipers they try to back up sometimes even yelling at Rico to back up or stay back. Like snipers, they only drop their primary weapon. These soldiers are not common, being found only in military bases.

Medici Military Commandante

"Commandante" or Base Commander.

The officers in the Medici Military. In some of the military bases, one of them will show up to deal with Rico directly once he destroys many assets in that base. Killing him is required to liberate the base. When they show up, they tend to use higher-tier vehicles, including the Imperator Bavarium Tank, Urga Mstitel, Urga Hrom D, and more, making them top-priority targets. When fighting on foot they wield the CS Predator like in the picture in the gallery down below. These also spawn inside of the target cars during the Random Encounter "aerial assassination." One of these guys killed himself in the opening cut-scene of A Terrible Reaction. He was probably the commander of Vis Electra. This music plays when a base commander appears.


Although it is implied these soldiers are rare due to their job, these "commandantes" strangely spawn quite commonly. For example, the "Aerial Assassination" random encounter always has one of these in a '13 Vigueur, and a roadside event with an overturned Stadt-Tresor ST 8530 has a dead one of these alongside two dead grunts and three dead rebels.

The Black Hand are international mercenaries, hired by either Di Ravello personally, or by the Medici Military. They assist the military in Insula Striate and Insula Dracon, but not in Insula Fonte. In Falco Maxime: Centcom they replace nearly all of the soldiers. See the article for a list of all the Black Hand soldiers.

Note that in the military, ranks and jobs are not the same thing. Someone can be a captain (rank) and work as a base commander (job).

Drill Sergeant[]

Di Ravello mentions a drill sergeant Dushku in his collectable audio-diary.

A drill sergeant is a drill instructor. Different militaries, or branches of military, can have different terms for this, such as "drill sergeant" (who presumably works as a drill instructor and holds a rank of "sergeant"). In any case, this is the person who personally trains (instructs) the soldiers (privates).

Sergeant Major[]

Drill sergeant Dushku was promoted to this rank. Note that this is a type of major, not a type of sergeant.

Sergeant major is a relatively high rank that differs greatly by country. It is normally just below colonel. While this rank was originally a command officer rank in the 17th century, in modern times, sergeant major is an appointment given to warrant officers in most armies except the USA and a few other exceptions where it's a rank of enlisted personnel (E-9) with several grades.

Vehicles[]

According to the in-game map info for Porto Le Gratia, Medici uses that port to import tanks and artillery.

Helicopters:

  • CS Comet - Unarmed transport helicopter.
  • CS Navajo - Heavy attack helicopter. It is equipped with 2 types of missiles, light ones and heavy ones, the latter being the most powerful non-Bavarium missiles. It has weak armor though.
  • Urga Hrom D - Large attack helicopter. It is equipped with dual miniguns and missiles.
  • Urga Mstitel - Modern attack helicopter with a Bavarium shield, allowing it to become immune for a few seconds before the shield needs recharging. The Mstitel also has vast amounts of armor, able to survive multiple hits from the Navajo's heavy missiles.
  • Urga Postolka - Small attack helicopter with a minigun on either side.
  • Urga Racek - Small unarmed helicopter able to land on water without sinking. Its purpose is likely reconnaissance, even if it is the slowest helicopter in the game.

Planes:

  • CS7 Thunderhawk - Delta-wing fighter plane equipped with homing missiles and a frontal machine gun.
  • U-7 Dravec - Larger two-engine fighter plane, equipped with bombs and unguided missiles.
  • U41 Ptakojester - Large cargo plane that can carry up to 10 land vehicles.

Ground vehicles:

  • CS Baltdjur - 6-wheeled armored personnel carrier with a roof mounted machine gun. The roof mounted machine gun can not be used from the driving position.
  • Monorail train - A train seen on the railroads in Insula Striate. It is commonly seen carrying CS7 Thunderhawks and various types of ground vehicles. It has a special missile defense system, where it shoots 10 missiles in a single salvo when enemies get near it.
  • Pavouk U-15 - Off-road motorcycle.
  • Urga Ogar 7 V8 - Buggy.
  • Weaponized Urga Ogar - Weaponized version of the above, armed with machine guns. Only appears on Boom Island if the DLC is bought.
  • Urga Fura 570 - Six-wheeled MRAP used for personnel transport.
  • Urga Szturm 63A - An MV with a Mounted Gun in a small turret.
  • Stria Obrero - A four-wheeler cargo truck, this truck is used for supply and cargo transport, and also is the main vehicle used to transport Bavarium.
  • Weimaraner W3 - SUV.
  • CS Odjur - 8-wheeled armored vehicle resembling the Ballard M5B1 Scout. Armed with a cannon and coaxial machine gun, both are operated by the driver. This is the main battle tank of the Medici Military.
  • Imperator Bavarium Tank - 8-wheeled armored vehicle with a Bavarium shield. It could be an improved version of the above vehicle. Same armament as above. This is the most powerful land vehicle in the Medici Military arsenal.
  • Urga Bkolos 2100 - 4-wheeled military armored vehicle, similar to the Harland DTWV-2 Scout and GV-104 Razorback, but more realistic looking. This vehicle is armed with a fast firing light cannon as armament.
    • Strangely, the above three vehicles are referred to as "tanks," despite them actually being armored cars/infantry fighting vehicles. They could be designated as "tanks," but such a designation would be highly unusual in real life.
  • It is also possible that the military are authorized to use any vehicle, as there was a report of a soldier using a Stria Joia. The D.R.M. has also been seen to at times commandeer any nearest vehicles, so this is likely how the game is meant to work.

The Medici Military uses virtually all the two-handed weapons in the game (minus weapons added by DLC), but there are certain bases where the weapon can be seen (or used) only once. The only heavy handheld weapon the Medici Military uses is the UVK-13.

Conversations[]

Just like rebel soldiers, military soldiers can be overheard speaking in vehicles. Though Rico can’t get into vehicles with them, they will be heard if a roadblock appears and a traffic jam of military vehicles occurs. Some of these quotes are also heard from soldiers patrolling outside vehicles, most commonly in Citate Di Ravello.

  • "These so-called Rebels make me laugh! Just a bunch of kids waving guns around. No organisation to speak of. Nothing like the General’s well-oiled machine."
  • "I’m fine with being stationed here instead of in the mines. If you get bored here, there’s plenty of seagulls to take potshots at."
  • "I wish Di Ravello would let us wear shorts, although I don’t think anyone would take us seriously in them."
  • "Hey, hey, you know what my favorite part about being in the Military is? It’s commandeering anything that looks fun - cars, boats, people’s apartments. If I want it, I just wave my gun around and I get it."
  • "You know, you wear those fatigues pretty well. Mine are always too big."
  • "Oh, I’m so bored. I haven’t seen any combat at all in the last few weeks. I’ll take anything at this point if it means I get to shoot something."

Trivia[]

  • In a promotional screenshot, their helicopters are seen providing cover for the Medici Police Department. See more about that at Cut game content from Just Cause 3.
  • Interestingly, they do not respond to Rico in rebel vehicles. However, they will respond to a Rebellion member in a rebel vehicle. This is most likely because too many Just Cause 2 players complained about it.
  • A Roadside Event can sometimes spawn 2 dead Medici Military grunts and a commander along with 2 dead rebels. Considering the rank of Commandante is the highest rank in the Medici Military, it's odd as to why he has such few escorts. It is also odd that they are outside of military bases, which typically are the only appearances of them.
  • The Rebellion seems to have no problem utilizing captured vehicles from them. Examples can be seen at Alte Potentia and Falco Maxime: Centcom.
  • If you get close to some soldiers (so long as you are not in a restricted area), they might say they have no problem working for the general but still dislike his methods and him.
  • Just like San Esperito and Panau, the soldiers in Medici bully civilians in oppressed towns, helping the D.R.M. with its task. However, this is not too commonly seen, giving the impression these soldiers don't actively oppress citizens.
  • It's unknown who is in charge of the military after the general is killed, but it can be assumed some high ranking officer takes power, likely a second in command (if any) next to the general.
    • Presumably, with the end of the conflict, it's likely that someone selected by The Rebellion would be head in charge, and a gradual reform of the military may have taken place.
  • Liberating all provinces does not make them disappear, as soldiers can still be seen at unnamed outposts (see among unmarked locations).
    • They can also be seen roaming the waters outside of the liberated province. This seems to be the only armed maritime presence out of ports.
    • As such, by the end of the game, even though they are militarily defeated, they still maintain various small outposts throughout Medici, most of them in Insula Striate. Weimaraner W3s also still spawn in roads.
  • Strangely, while those areas are not restricted, some soldiers may use the gesture they use at restricted areas when seeing the player, waving their hand.
  • Their camouflage pattern seems to be based off of the Russian Desert EMR uniform, though this is unknown.
    • In concept art and early screenshots of the game, they wear the Swedish M90 Desert camouflage on their uniforms. Their vehicles still retain a fictional red-colored version of the M90 camouflage. Going back to more pre-release material, their vehicles were originally monotone desert colored while concept art depicted them as foliage green colored.
  • It is impractical for them to use sand colored uniforms, as there is little to no terrain on Medici with matching coloration besides the man-made bare lands of mine areas. One possibility may be an old tradition for them to wear sand colored uniforms.
    • Given that the Di Ravello tapes states that the Medici military had purposely been given outdated equipment by other countries, this is most likely the reason for their uniforms.
  • This military force was the first in the entire Just Cause Game Series where they did not have any vehicles with sirens until the Black Hand in JC4.
    • However, it is still possible for a Medici Military member or D.R.M. grunt to take a Medici Police Department Stria Joia. This can be rarely seen at some police stations. However, the Stria Joias are technically not their property, making the above statement still valid.
  • For unknown reasons, soldiers wielding other weapons besides the standard weapons do not fire them. This can be seen at Le Tutor, Cima Leon: Silo, and a few other bases. This is most likely a glitch or development oversight. This can also be observed from pilots of Urga Raceks that appear as reinforcements.
  • Strangely, for the military with the most advanced military chopper in the game series, the Medici Military do not appropriately respond to aerial attack with helicopters of their own. In all other heat systems in the game series, all the other factions opposing Rico send helicopters if Rico is in a helicopter at heat level 1 and 2, but here they only send them at heat level 3 to 5.
