This article concerns Medician cuisine, referring to food in Medici, the nation featured in Just Cause 3.
Common sources of food[]
Medici is known for its agriculture, likely producing much of the food and drink the country consumes. Cereal grains can be spotted along the flatter parts of Medici, as well as olive orchards and vineyards on hillsides. In terms of meat, cow and goat pastures are all across Medici. Due to being an island nation, it can be assumed that fish is also widely consumed.
Known dishes and drinks[]
Almost every town has at least one restaurant, and advertisements for beverages are all over Medici, even in the abandoned towns north of the wall.
Medici is clearly quite fond of their wine.
- The mission Of Cows and Wine features a truck full of wine kegs filled with "The general’s private reserve".
- In-game map description for Vinialetta: "Vinialetta holds a reputation as home to the nation's most creative vintners, both in the variety of wines produced there and the yield gained from its rocky, unforgiving soil. It's not uncommon to see a Vinialetta wine on the General's dinner table."
- In-game map description for Alba: "The hilly, relatively quiet town of Alba is one of Medici's top wine producers. Alba was lucky enough to avoid "major restructuring" by Di Ravello, in that its vineyards weren't immediately razed to make way for some military support structure."
- In-game map description for Cirilla: "The quaint town of Cirilla is named after Cirillo Salroso, patriarch of the ancient Salirosan people. On the third Sunday of every month, those that still uphold the "Way of Cirillo" meet privately, to share bottles of wine and good food, hoping the spirit of their once-beloved leader will look down upon them and their families favorably."
- Grapes (necessary for wine production) are being grown at many rural farms, including Granmatre Frigo's house. Although, grapes could also be directly eaten or turned into juice.
When starting the game, Rico will be sitting in a chair drinking some kind of alcohol.
At the end of Conflicting Interests, Tom Sheldon invites Rico over to "Café Francesco", in Fortalessa. Sheldon Reports that they "make one mean panelle con pollo". Despite saying this, Sheldon will only have some kind of drink. Similarly, at the very end of The Heist Begins, Rico and Sheldon meet to have a discussion. They are at an unknown restaurant, and Sheldon is eating a sandwich.
Local celebrity Bolo Santosi has a banana stand at Citate Di Ravello. This is also an easter egg.
Seafood is another common sight in Medici.
- Fisherman are seen all across Medici, as well as countless fishing ships all around Medici.
- There's a seafood market in Nacre called "Just Claws".
- In-game map description for Vista Fonte: "A tiny village only a decade ago, the up-and-coming town of Vista Fonte has ultimately benefited from Di Ravello's rule. The military's demand for grain and fish created thousands of stable jobs, and the burning of the North brought a fresh workforce south to fill them.".
- The villages in Insula Dracon are referred to as "fishing villages", with a few referencing fish:
- In-game map description for Vico Spigola: "Every year Vico Spigola hosts the nation's oldest fishing contest, the Medici Sea Bass Classic. Last year's winning fish was caught by General Sebastiano Di Ravello, extending his winning streak to a remarkable twenty-two years.".
- In-game map description for Vico Maquerello: "Every year anglers from around the world pilgrimage to this small fishing community to view the Maquerello Sancte, a miraculous fish caught in 1973 that although deceased, has never exhibited signs of decay or decomposition. Rubbing its scales is thought to bring good fortune, though the practice is strictly forbidden.".
- In-game map description for Vico Platessa: "Vico Platessa is home to Medici's oldest lighthouse keeper Luis Berillos. At ninety-eight years old, Berillos credits his longevity to regular physical activity, a diet rich in flounder, and an all-consuming hatred for those bastardos in Vico Maquerello.".
