The PBX Mine Launcher 2A7 is a weapon in Just Cause 4.
Appearance[]
It looks similar to the PGL-6 Grenade Launcher and it's only available in Black Hand colors (black and red). Its handle and magazine are similar to the MPS AA-12 Shotgun.
Performance[]
Primary fire will launch a sticky mine that glows red. Upon triggering the Secondary Fire the mine will detonate and explode. The mine(s) cannot be detonated by any means other than secondary fire. There is a split second delay between pressing the secondary fire button and detonation, as there is an animation of Rico's finger reaching for the detonation button. New mines placed after 24 are already deployed will replace the oldest ones. Secondary fire will detonate all existing mines, with a split second delay between each detonation. The mines detonate in order of deployment, from the first to the last mine deployed.
When detonated, the mines make a small, grenade-sized explosion with only a little bit of fire. Surprisingly, it deals extremely high amounts of damage. Anything that happens to be within a 1-2 meter radius of the mine when it detonates will suffer a massive HP reduction, usually to the point where it explodes. Anything within 5-10 meters will take notably less damage, and armored vehicles will usually come out intact after receiving the mine's splash damage. Infantry, however, will not. As such, when used against armored targets, keep the mine as close to the target as possible. For clusters of infantry, however, try to place the mine so that the infantry spreads evenly around it - this will make good use of its large (but less powerful) splash radius.
Most vehicles will be destroyed with a single mine. Two mines can destroy a Warchief Assault Tank. It only takes three mines to sink a Spearhead Transport or completely destroy a Large Radar Dish. Needless to say, infantry doesn't stand a chance against one of these mines, not even Titans and Super Elites/Colonels. If Rico were to stand on a mine when it exploded, it would kill him instantly, something almost nothing can do. It's likely one of the most powerful weapons in any Just Cause game (in terms of pure damage output). Of course, the equalization system complicates things but it generally takes a lot of firepower to destroy something like the Large Radar Dish.
It is also useful against the "source" in the Los Demonios DLC missions because the source does not have to be open to detonate the mine.
Locations[]
- It is unlocked for supply drop after securing the Las Tormentas region.
- Sometimes in weapon crates. The vast majority of weapon crates have random content.
Trivia[]
- To some minor extent, the weapon can be considered a successor to the GE-64 in Just Cause 3 (both are small yet incredibly powerful explosives that are manually detonated), but that legacy is mostly carried on by the new grappler modifications.
- The PBX Super-Sniper 4's secondary fire launches a proximity mine that detonates when enemies are nearby. THe Super-Sniper's mine is much less powerful, though.
- There are 3 guns in the game with the PBX prefix. These include the PBX Auto-Slug 4, PBX Super-Sniper 4 and PBX Mine Launcher 2A7.
- It makes sense to assume that that is their company name, but the Prospero Group advertisements on the radio claim that they manufacture all the weapons and vehicles for the Black Hand. Realistically, it's also reasonable to assume that advertisements are usually misleading, if not lies.
- Since all three weapons seem like either new (mine launcher), or better versions of others in their type, PBX could be something like an advanced weapons branch of Grupo Prospero. Another odd thing is that the Black Hand never use these weapons, which could mean any weapon in the PBX category are new weapon types that haven't been taken into use yet, like perhaps they're possibly on a waiting list for testing and approval by some commission.
- PBX might be an acronym for Prospero Balística Experimental or something similar, which would make sense if they were in testing or awaiting approval.
