The PR17 Rocket drone is a weaponized drone in Just Cause 4.
Description[]
It is much larger than the PR83 Attack Drone and also spawns regularly during heat. It is shaped like a trapezoid with odd extensions (when viewing it from the top), with two tiny rotors on either side. Like other Black Hand vehicles, it has a grey and red color scheme. How the drone sees is unknown; perhaps they are controlled by Black Hand operators at a base of sorts, but they could be completely AI controlled (in-universe) as well.
Performance[]
Despite its name, it appears to be armed with incendiary/high explosive rounds of some sort, although they do seem to have a slight homing ability, leaving them somewhat ambiguous. Compared to other bullets, they have a slow velocity. The rounds/mini-rockets are explosive and possibly proximity-fused, seeing as they explode when next to flying targets, should they not be on course to directly impact it. The explosions are quite small and (for explosions in the Just Cause Universe) are quite weak as well. They inflict heavy damage to infantry and moderate damage to Rico and unarmored vehicles. Heavy armor (such as tanks and similar armored vehicles) is usually strong enough that these drones don't pose much of a threat. Additionally, while the projectiles do fire slow, the drone can be annoying when it sneaks up on the player or the player is not aware of its position (which happens quite often due to their constant movement), as their explosive rounds can put Rico in a temporary, short-lived ragdoll state, leaving them vulnerable.
The PR17 is much stronger (has much higher health) than the other drones and can take sustained fire from small arms (you can dump an entire SW9 Assault Rifle's 40-round magazine into this and it might still be alive). The drone's rotors seem to be a weak spot, but this is only easily exploitable when Rico is grappled to the drone and even then can still stand up to quite a bit of small-arms fire. Overall, the best and most ammo-conserving way is to just retract it into the ground, or another solid surface. Using boosters to make it spiral away can be satisfying, but be aware that the boosters will eventually deactivate and the drone will unrelentingly return. Any "heavy" weapon usually with an explosive payload (such as RPGs, vehicle mounted cannons etc) can destroy these drones with one hit. However, dumb fire rockets and heavy guns are not the most viable option, as while it is larger and slower than the other drones it is still fairly small and agile, and flies around and changes position quite often; this makes it quite difficult to hit by single shot weapons. Besides guided missiles, miniguns or similar machine guns with high damage, high fire rate and an abundance of/infinite ammo are very effective as well.

- Unlocked for supply drop after completing the mission Beachhead.
Trivia[]
- Despite being called a "rocket drone", scanning it with the AR lens says that its only weapons are "machine gun". This is likely either developer oversight or simply because the weapons are effectively autocannons, which function as more powerful, machine guns firing semi-explosive cartridges, used against stronger targets. However, it does raise questions on whether or not the "rockets" are actually rockets.
