Radar are chaos objects in Just Cause 4.

Several of these look like satellite dishes. Their actual names are revealed by the AR scan.

Common description[]

They are usually seen in military (Black Hand) bases, outposts and some cities. The common type has a lowish value in chaos points, but the rare enormous type has a very high value in chaos points.

The different ones, except Sphere Radars, are all called simply "radar" in game, so the only way to distinguish them is by their descriptions.

Sphere Radars[]

JC4 Sphere radar

Main article: Sphere Radars.

These are the only ones that the game identifies as anything other than just "radar".

They're about the size (volume) of a car or two and they rotate so fast that they throw Rico off, if the player should get on top of any.

Usual radar dish[]

These are the most common type of radar dish. They can be destroyed by being grappled to the ground and will shatter in pieces upon small-arms fire. They have a low value in chaos points, but appear in almost every military base and most of the outposts.

They're almost entirely white with a few red parts.

They rotate on their horizontal axis.

Locations[]

Almost all military bases and several outposts have at least one of these.

Big old yellow radar[]

It has 3 flat panels and a horizontal bar on the top. It looks like the antennas should possibly be revolving, but the stricture can not be moved by being grappled. The flat panels have rust patches on them.

There is also a control panel near it, but it doesn't operate the radar. This console is used in the mission Diego Dive.

One of these is on the roof of a building at Puerto Diego. There are likely more of them, but that's the only currently known one.

Huge radar[]

JC4 huge radar

A "huge" radar is highlighted in the middle and an "enormous" radar is seen in the distance on the right.

This type of radars have a huge rotating angular dish with a smaller flat panel mounted on top of them that rotates in the opposite direction at a slightly faster speed. Despite being large and seemingly built on a strong reinforced structure, they are easily destroyed with explosives. About ten seconds of gunfire will take them out too.

Locations[]

Enormous radar dish[]

These radar dishes are absolutely massive. They are the largest chaos object in the entire game and have a value of 10,000 chaos points. These huge dishes are massive and are heavily reinforced by strong structural support, so they takes lots of firepower - over three tank cannon rounds (when shooting at the right spot, over seven when shooting other spots) - to destroy. Like their JC3 counterparts, using any explosive weapon on any area of the dish will blow a hole through it. Due to their gigantic size, it takes seven or more explosions in separate areas of the dish to blow enough holes into the structure so that the entire thing shatters into pieces and the foundation topples down. While you can destroy them by using explosives to blow up all the area on the dish, an easier way is to shoot the base. Only three to five cannon rounds will destroy the base and cause the dish to collapse.

They move slowly and occasionally change their angle a little. They only do this if the player is close enough because the game doesn't want to render details like this when they aren't too relevant. If the game renders all tiny details regardless of distance from the player, performance would drop very significantly. That's true for all video games. The more detail, the more computive power it takes to achieve the same performance.

Due to their size and being pointed up, they must be monitoring things in space. ICBM early-warning radars are not round and scan horizons. Only space radars are like this in real life. These therefore count as parts of the Solino Space Program.

Locations[]

Some of them are brightly colored on the map while others are dim and hard to spot, unless you know where to look and a few are not marked at all.

Trivia[]

  • In Just Cause, all dishes need to be thoroughly and completely broken into pieces to count as destroyed. In real life, a satellite dish with just one little hole or crack will be inoperable. Small holes are easy to patch, so that explains why they need to be completely destroyed.
