Simón Valencia is a character in Just Cause 4.

Personal info[]

He wears glasses, indicating that he has poor eyesight without them.

Javi Huerta describes Simón as "wearing a chakana around his neck", which according to Javi is an expression that means Simón is an idiot.

Career[]

He's an archaeologist. As told by Javi, he's the kind of a person who pillages ancient relics and sells them on the black market.

Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow.

According to Javi, he once reported Javi to the Black Hand, after Javi had stolen some items relating to Otorongo. This resulted in Javi's arrest and imprisonment. This is also mentioned in an in-game loading screen quote: "Simón Valencia was always jealous of Javi's ability to unearth archeological finds. It's why he turned Javi in for stealing and preserving artifacts slated for destruction."

He is introduced to the game in the Los Demonios DLC, where he's a minor antagonist. He appears in the mission The Artifact.

In that mission he tricks Javi and Rico into helping him, before revealing himself and his Black Hand body guards. The guards then hold Javi and Rico at gunpoint while Simón unintentionally releases the demons and plant-based monsters from the Isla De Los Annilos necropolis. In that moment he seems to die. His body is not found, but Rico and Javi assume that he died.

Javi later finds that Simón had mistranslated the Qacha word for "demon" as "gold", which explains his actions.

He appears in the final mission, Extermination. It turns out that his body had been absorbed into the Huchasunqu monster. Rico mentions that Simón would be better off dead and Javi agrees, encouraging Rico to kill him. Eventually during the fight, the Huchasunqu (with a part of Simón's consciousness still in it), asks that Rico would kill him. While dying, when he gets a chance to talk more clearly as the Huchasunqu infestation is now destroyed, he admits to Javi and Rico that he was indeed the "idiot". By this point his body is a pile of pink goo that soon disintegrates into nothing. Rico and Javi wonder what to do next and agree not to speak of this again.

Trivia[]

When he appears in the mission The Artifact, his attitude and appearance seem to be a parody of Arnold Ernst Toht, the German agent from the 1981 movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark". When he seemingly dies while being absorbed, it happens in a way that again resembles the death of the german agent in the movie. And in the end when he finally dies, he does so by melting, which again is how the german agent and his associate died in the movie.
