Similarities to real things[]
Thanks to the lockdown I found myself browsing Wikipedia articles about Venezuela and I've noticed some probable references to it in the game:
- The national flag is eerily similar to the flag of Valencia
- Distrito Capital and its Venezuelan namesake
- The thunderstorms over Zona Dos and the Catatumbo lightning

- It is reasonable that the developers researched the nearby nations a little to get it to look right. Just like the towns of San Esperito kind of look like Cuba and how the settlements of Medici look a lot like the southern coast of France and the coast of Italy, except more mountainous. Economy model and government type[]
A loading screen revealed a little more for us: "Over 60% of Solís is employed by an Espinosa company or subsidiary -- this includes the Black Hand and every single politician in elected office."
- This establishes that not every company is owned by the Espinosa Dynasty, thus establishing capitalism. Previously we had to assume a Soviet-style planned economy, because that's what it is when all companies belong to the ruler/government.
- It also establishes that there are elected politicians, who are employed by the de facto monarch. The nature of this employment is still unclear however. It could be that Oscar is a mere very powerful oligarch, who controls the government through corruption, but it could just as easily mean that he employs them legally, as an absolutist king would employ the government.

Something weird[]
For an island country, the Black Hand should know how to swim. Instead, when Rico forces one of them or a civilian or even an American Agency operative into water, they just... flail about trying to swim. At the very least, they should know how to float.
