This article is about the types of marked locations in Just Cause 4.
Types[]
For the first time in the Just Cause game series, this game doesn't just have settlements and bases. It also has lakes, lagoons and other Natural objects among the marked locations. Unfortunately however, several settlements are left completely unmarked.
There are many different types of marked locations Solís: Natural landmarks (some of them have towns within them), towns, cities, military bases, outposts and temples/tombs for example.
Some settlements appear twice or more on some lists. That's because they are marked as one thing but are actually something else. For example T'ira-Kuni is marked as a landmark but is actually a village.
The below list needs double checking and fixing, as many of the locations should have Spanish letters in their names: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, ñ. Use this website for easier typing of place names.
There's a number of marked locations that are mislabeled. See the list of misplaced icons in JC4 about that.
Cities[]
Cities are settlements that are too big and too developed to be towns or are described as cities in their descriptions (Santa Joya).
Towns[]
Towns are small civilian settlements. They are the most common type of settlement.

Temples/tombs/ancient ruins[]

Temples are the places that you need to complete to unlock The Lost Tomb of Otorongo mission. They are only five of them found in the rain forest biome. On the other hand, the twelve ancient statues usually have smaller ancient statues near them showing the way to them once moved. They can be found all over Solís.

Unmarked locations[]
Some settlements have been left completely unmarked. These mainly include villages and towns, but there's also a few small outposts along with a bigger military airport outpost.
Trivia[]
- See Types of settlements in San Esperito, Types of settlements in Panau and Types of settlements in Medici for settlements in previous games.
- Some settlements like outposts and towns are shown on the map with wrong symbols. This includes mostly small heliports. These are likely developer mistakes.
- Some settlement descriptions are completely unfitting. For example, some grasslands settlements may be described as mere single farms belonging to the same person, despite them obviously being towns.
- The names of settlements and the regions almost all derive from either Spanish or Quechua, with Quechua names being concentrated in the mountains and Jungle regions. Somewhat unrealistically, the Quechua names are all spelled with modern Quechua orthography, instead of using Hispanicized spellings, even though it seems that Solís is currently entirely Spanish speaking.
