Wanay Extraction is a mission in Just Cause 4.

Introduction

This is the second Region Strike mission in JC4, the first being Casquillos Vacíos Reboot (which is an undividable part of Operation Whiteout).

Quote from the map marker: "The Black Hand have drafted civilians to counter the Army of Chaos threat. Extract as many civilians as possible."

Walkthrough

Rico has to open two locked rooms by interacting with computers next to the doors. Each will let out three prisoners. Each group of prisoners is already armed, but they still need cover on their way out. If they die, the mission fails.

Either group can be rescued in any order, though rescuing the northern group takes a bit longer than the southern group.

Group at the north of the base

There are several Black Hand Warrior Offroaders and Cavalry Armored Trucks available. It is easy to ram the enemies to death once you've hijacked one. Note that the prisoners cannot get in vehicles.

After a brief while, a Dropzone Chopper carrying two snipers will appear. Bring it down.

After some distance you will be confronted with a raised bridge. The bridge can be lowered in 2 ways. Either destroy the red control box next to the bridge, or by using Retractor Mods to pull the bridge down with the grappler.

After the bridge is down, some of the escaped draftees will remark "Look at all of these fuel tanks, carajo". Another will say, "Hey hey! Come on, let's blow up all this Espinosa shit". You will be prompted to destroy 5 Black Hand fuel tanks.

After that, there will be another bridge with yet more Black Hand solders attacking both Rico and the trainees. Passing the bridge, Rico will finally arrive at the waypoint.

Escort the recruits to the main gate. There will be a Dropzone Chopper dropping 4 Black Hand soldiers, but that can be easily downed by a AT7 RPG or any explosive round. Watch for the Black Hand sniper wielding a LRD-3 Sniper. A Cavalry Armored Truck will arrive to attempt to stop Rico and the three draftees, but shoot a tire and it will crash, blowing up.

Group near the south of the base

Go to the southern gate of Academia Wanay and hack the computer to release the prisoners. The second extraction's procedures are the same as the north, only this is a shorter path.

After all the trainees have arrived at the gate, Sargento gives Rico a call and tells him that a chopper to extract the hostages have come, and the mission ends here.

Trivia

• This is one of 3 missions that are about capturing a Black Hand training base and freeing civilians. The others are Infierno Escape and Qacha Breakout.
• Like most of the missions in JC4, Rico still has heat after the mission is concluded.
• There are minor errors of logic in the "opening gate and letting out the trainees" cutscenes.
  • When Rico opens the gates, he tosses the trainees two SW9 Assault Rifles. Where did he get them? And how did he even carry them if the maximum weapon count is two? It could be that he just picked up those two somewhere, but even that should be visibly shown on Rico's body being carried.
  • Although SW9 Assault Rifles are given to the prisoners, they can also carry CC10 Shotguns, 21-J Smart-Rifles and SMG-2s.
• When you're told to blow up the fuel tanks, one of the draftees will say, "Look at all of these fuel tanks, carajo". Another will say, "Hey hey! Come on, let's blow up all this Espinosa shit". "Carajo" translates to "shit".
