Weapon crates are interactable objects in Just Cause 2, Just Cause 3 and Just Cause 4. These objects aren't really officially named in the games, so the article name here is just for convenience.

Description (JC2)[]

They are dark plastic crates for most weapons (a twice as long crate for two-handed weapons), or a wooden box for grenades/triggered explosives. The lid of the nearest crate (or two at a time) will open automatically when Rico stands close enough.

Locations (JC2)[]

  • Most military bases in Panau have clusters of 3 crates, containing a pistol, a Submachine Gun, and up to 5 grenades. In a few bases though, the three crates are separate.
  • During Welcome to Panau, Kem Gunung Dataran Tinggi has a crate of Triggered Explosives behind the SAM launcher, two Submachine Gun ammo crates, one grenade ammo crate, and one pistol ammo crate. These only spawn during the mission.
  • Nearly every faction mission has the faction owner giving Rico a weapon, be it weapon or explosive. These are often seen being kicked off the back of the faction leader's vehicle. Most missions provide a submachine gun. In some side-missions where the faction leader arrives by boat, a faction member is seen carrying the crate from the provided boat onto shore, then leaving it there.

Description (JC3)[]

It is a blue metal crate with white flotation foam attached around the edges, making it able to float on water. The inside has dark foam that protects the content. If the crate is ordered from the Rebel drop, once the cargo container opens it will remain closed for a while before bursting upon in an explosion of confetti.

Locations (JC3)[]

  • All weapons ordered from the Rebel drop arrive in a crate.
  • A few missions have these to provide the player with weapons.

Description (JC4)[]

They are dark blue metal boxes with two red arrows pointing in the opening direction of the crate. The crate can be opened with the interact button (E on PC). Opening a crate makes Rico kick the edge of a crate. This seems to release some sort of lock that in turn flips the top of the crate off on two sides and raises an internal platform up. The crates can float on water and have lights to illuminate the content at night.

A single crate normally has three random weapons. There can even be two of the same weapon. Very few crates have a distinct content set that's always the same.

In crates with random weapons, the usual Black Hand small-arms are the most common: SW9 Assault Rifle, SMG-2, CC10 Shotgun and 21-J Smart-Rifle. The Defender Machine Gun and LRD-3 Sniper are the second most common weapons. Next in likelyness is the Black Hand's explosive arsenal, consisting of the PGL-6 Grenade Launcher and the AT7 RPG. Even rarer are Black Hand weapons that are not used by the Black Hand, including the AT3-X RPG, PBX Auto-Slug 4, PBX Mine Launcher 2A7 and PBX Super-Sniper 4. The least common weapons that spawn in a random content crate are "experimental" weapons, the PWC V4.2 Wind Gun, RG-PBA 9 Railgun and DA 9.3 Lightning Gun.

If the Los Demonios DLC is installed, Demon Crossbows might show up in weapon crates around Infestations.

According to a loading screen, weapons unlocked in supply drop have a higher chance of spawning in weapon crates found all over the game (paraphrased).

The Agency versions (added by the Danger Rising expansion) look and function the same, except that theirs are orange and have an Agency logo. On Agency submarines, they mainly spawn Agency weapons, but Black Hand weaponry can occasionally also be found.

Locations (JC4)[]

  • At all military bases and outposts.
    • There are six weapon crates in the main Illapa facility with randomized spawns, but the base also has some crates that permanently spawn the same weapons. See the below section for reference.
  • Some in towns.
  • At the top of each lighthouse.
  • Around the front.
  • Weapons ordered from the supply drop arrive in weapon crates.
  • Danger Rising DLC:
  • Los Demonios DLC:
    • At Black Hand positions at every infestation site.
    • At Black Hand positions on Isla de los Annilos during the mission Extermination.
    • On a small island near Isla de los Annilos at the beginning of the mission Extermination.
  • At the Descansito airfield.

Guaranteed content[]

The following crates are known to always have the same content:

Trivia[]

  • Real militaries have traditionally transported small arms in crates. The purpose is to facilitate reasonably easy transport and storage.
  • In reality, weapons are never left loaded when in storage and ammunition is always in separate crates. That's to make transport and storage safer from theft and to reduce the need for constant armed guards.
  • In reality, smaller and lighter weapons (grenades, pistols, SMGs and anything similar) would rarely, if ever, be in their individual crates. Normally such crates contain as many as a person, or two people can carry. Only heavier weapons, such as RPGs and bigger machine guns, would be in their individual crates.
