This article describes all the weather in Just Cause 4.

Common description[]

Storms have always been present in the Just Cause game series, starting with a distant thunder storm being shown in the first trailer for Just Cause. Rain, excessive clouds, clear sunny, foggy, snowfall and possibly more types of weather conditions have been present in the gameplay of Just Cause, Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 3. JC2 features constant rain and thunder around Hantu Island until a side mission is completed.

It wasn't until Just Cause 4 that weather was completely overhauled, with the addition of a separate game engine to actually implement all the aerodynamical forces of weather that effect in-game aircraft and other flying objects. The gameplay and storyline of JC4 both heavily feature different types of storms that are described below.

In-universe weather-control technology has been around since at least the 1940s when Japan engineered the facility at Hantu Island (if that even was their first weather base). Weather control technology was developed further by the eDEN Corporation in the 1980s and most recently by the Solino Project Illapa (go there for detailed spoilers).

Sandstorm[]

Main article: Sandstorm.

These can only be encountered in the desert, particularly around the Las Tormentas region.

This storm type is arguably the weakest of the storms, as the only real difference is reduced visibility.

Lightning storm[]

Main article: Lightning storm.

These can only be encountered in the rainforest, particularly around the Kunka region.

This storm type slightly reduces visibility and features rain, strong wind and includes a high risk of lightning. The lightning poses a large threat to Rico, especially when he's at a high altitude, so keep him down near the ground and move away quickly when lightning is about to strike him.

Tornado[]

Main article: Tornado.

These can only be encountered in the grasslands area, south of the Laderas Sur region.

This storm type features strong wind and poses a threat to just about anything not nailed down to the ground, if they go too close to the visible column at the middle of the storm. Subjectively, it is arguably the second most powerful of the storms behind the blizzard. The wind does not actually harm Rico, but if he were to drive a vehicle close to a tornado, he could be sucked into the vortex, and possibly die if he doesn't bail out before the vehicle slams into the tornado wall.

Blizzard[]

Main article: Blizzard.

These can only be encountered in the mountains, particularly around the Qachas region.

These are meant to be the ultimate storms in the game as effects include reduced visibility, strong wind and a high risk of lightning. As one would expect from a blizzard, there's a lot of snow and hail. However, the snow makes no real difference in gameplay (other than contributing to the loss of visibility). On the other hand, the wind and lightning pose a significant threat to the player, with the lightning capable of inflicting heavy damage and the wind making it difficult to fly aircraft.

This type of weather is arguably all three storms above mixed into one, with lightning, snow taking the place of sand in reduced visibility, and high winds.
